Cheers guys, i never go by the press that is why i asked on here, leetwin i have about 400 notes to spend but if i can get a pole plus a few extra top kits for the money then great, i know i am not going to get anything mega for that sort of money but if thats all i can afford then thats all i can afford, i fish with a shakespeare pole star pro 2050 at the moment which to be honest i find heavy and not very useable but i only paid 180 notes of ebay for it its done me but i would like something a bit more comfortable to fish with

been looking around and i think the maver 151 is a better investment, can get it for £120 extra if you shop around, but that does involve a match kit(£70), the 14.5 meter extension (£110), 100 grams lighter and Biconical 1/2 Extension(£70)
£170 more in most places....but iv seen it for £470 with free p&p.
a bit more saving up 2 do but alot better deal
one thing i dont understand is that the poles that are dearer then the 151 get heavier.

Did you pick that Exage up Leetwin?

Garbolino Premier Legion is less than £500, 16M with 3 power top 2s and a match kit in the pole. Spare top kits and No4s are all around the £50 mark. Don't go buy a pole on weight alone, you must have a waggle first whether it's on the bank or in the shop. Some poles may be heavier on paper but that weight may be lost because it's balanced better. Usually you'll find that a slightly heavier pole is more durable as well. FUNKMASTER has got a Premier Legion and it's brilliant value for money and will cope with most match situations.

Pole technology from sections 4 down to the butt has slowed down amazingly in the last 5 or so years and now manufactures are concentrating development on the top kits,as its these that affects a whole poles feel, weight at the top end really makes or breaks a pole.

To prove this i used the match top kits from a 401(maver) and replaced them with the same brands 101 top 4 ...try it and see what you think.
Ive picked up Garbolino poles in the £500 bracket (which i think is suited to most keen pole anglers pockets) and i find them to be not as responsive as Maver poles in the same price band.
Then again, ive put Preston poles against Maver and found Preston to be marginally more responsive.
Power tops really do add unwanted weight to the balance of a pole so personally i just buy match top`s and bush the no2 and use these as my power tops.
