heavy?? not atall.
iv been looking into getting one myself and was going to open a topic on one but i dont need to no more lol.
at 16m u can feel it but at 13 its still light.
compared to any other poles in the price bracket you wont get anything more respnsive light and remeber you can interchange it, so you can add onto it when ever you have the money if you wish.
the only think i want to know is the different packages going with it, i would like one with a match kit with the top kits but have only seen 1 deal with a match kit in.
if you can hold one from your local tackle shop you will see the weight issue and make your own mind up.
do you have a pole atm? or are you looking to buy it for your first pole?

Phill the 101 is a 13m pole not 16m, not sure what Ryan means unless he has a couple of extensions in which case it would be impossible to fish at that length. The 101 is at the bottom of the maver competition pole range which now goes upto the 401. Ive only picked the pole up in the shop and thought it was a tad heavy, you see the difference if you put it straight down and then pick a 201 up etc. All I can say mate is ignore what the angling press say about it and go and pick one up yourself, maybe try a shimano technium as well £100 cheaper probably similar weight.

to be honest i would stear away from the maver but its down to your own preferance. as said pick one up, dont even think of buying one becuase the press told you to.i swear there's a few back handers going on with tackle reveiws in the angling press.

Default maver pole 101

as always good advice ladsi am not a lover of maver poles, but i put this aside and picked up this pole today,at the mo i have a shimano nexave xt comp 13m cost me £229 from west midlands angling with 2power kits one match kit and a cupping kit all in.
although the maver 101 is a bit slimmer through the sections it seems a tad heavier than mine at full length, also spares aint cheap plus more importantly with all poles in this price range it will be unfishable at longer than 13m.
i have had 2 maver poles the moby dick which i kept for two months and a sparticus 16m which i fished for a season with so i have had the budget end and top end of mavers range, and am now happy with my shimano, feels better to fish with and have had me best results with it.
so as a first pole the maver 101 is so new and has not had time to be angler tested be weary, there are a lot of good poles out there in the same price range and without doing my homework i would not have found out about my shimano, and there was no angling times feature about it because, if you read the paper a lot as i do maver products always get good write ups.
hope that helps

rich.T i was talking about the extensions you can get for 14.5 meters and the other 1 for 16 meter.are maver talking aload of bullsh*t about the new tecknology in the poles then?
i havent picked up a pole at that price range that is lighter but you say there are ones lighter so i guess there is.
there have been a few reviews of products in iycf that i have brought and found they are not as good as the review stated

Ryan please read my thread again you will then see I clearly say you had to be using a couple of extensions as its a 13m pole. I also dont state that you can get a lighter pole in that price bracket, as for this new technology im not sure what you mean maybe you can enlighten me as you obviously have a greater knowledge on poles than I do. Tight lines mate.

If you read theis months advanced pole fishing mag they review the very pole and the bloke reckons its a good piece of kit for the money.... I have been to fosters today having a look at a few poles in there pole alley and even though I never tested that particular pole I did look at a few other maver competition poles and even though they didnt feel right for me I have never used one properly so they could be really good.... anyway the best thing you can do is get yourself to a decent tackle shop and look at one set up thats what i'd do...
