Have to say that if I were fishing a match and every other peg was in and someone started to fish past the peg in between us irrespective of wether or not it was not past half way there would be hell on! I think it is an unwritten rule that if it is every other peg you can fish up to but not past the next peg otherwise you are asking for trouble.
Mr Teapot has an idea along the lines of what would happen to alot of people if it were not resolved before the start of the match, but you are going to always get some people who just will not agree and try and impose their will apon you!

I would of gone with larrys approach but only if they started catching there. Big pot of corn and pellets. Especially if it was winter as unlikely to catch on inside anyway.

correct me if i,m wrong.(again). ive always been under the impression that a pegged out match was based on the pegs used . so if they missed out every other peg , then for that match those pegs did not exist. therefor the 50% either side rule counts. where the platform is does not matter one jot. problem nowadays is there are so many small matches run on small vanue,s by owners with little or no experience of matchfishing these disputes are beyond there ken. whereas an experience organiser would just quote NFA rules and that would be an end to it.

This happens all the time you will always find someone that tries to intimidate you, or even push the rules to the limit, of course the rules have to be defined in the first place to break one though.
I used to get it alot on the Trent where they would run the stick right to your keepnet, Many a time I have cast over the top to try and snag them.
In a way its a little gamesmanship,he is just trying to see if you would give in, Larry's method is definately the best if you got the balls to execute it, either that or make some excuse to peg your spare net out on the pallet in question.

Good quistion.
The peg is the marker, you can both fish up to it. No matter how far away it is, if your the end peg, you can have plenty of room!
Half way is normal if you are opposit each other, usualy less than half to save confrontation.
I have only had it happen to me once, at Willinghurst a guy was casting to the island in front of me, his attitude was well your not fishing there! I must admitt i spat the dummy and told him could have the peg, i was that cross, and went home, lol.
