you have got it spot on nige!!
unfortunately Justin, the rules are different on rivers, you are allowed to fish a line straight out in front and not upstream, but, you can fish to the next angler down stream!(although its a bit much trying to catch em out of your net LOL!!)

Yes quite obviously,

running your stickfloat upstream is a tad difficult even with a good upstreamer

I was just using that example as, gamesmanship bordering on intimidation, and that despite rules people will push the point as far as they can, in your case it would appear unclear rules are the key point, as it seems they are different from boundry to boundry maybe sorting the issue prior to the off would have been the answer.

The NFA model match rules ARE out of date!.
WE NEED NATIONAL RULES,,,, 'same for everyone'
We then need to 'OBEY' them,,, 'same for everyone'
What do you all think of this one?,,,cast out a lead (fixed) then pull off 3yds/mtrs of line take off anti reverse on reel tie rod to rest then leave your peg and have a chat with someone on another lake, then after 25 mins or so return and reel in a carp! put carp in net then repeat.
This is called the Rodney Rest method.

Hi Justin, the rules are as clear as gin! its half way on a stillwater,it just needs people to take note!
i agree it is just intimidation and cheating!
bytheway i have on occasions had anglers casting a pig upstream into my peg on a river, but,i agree its very difficult with a stick float! LOL

Me,,,,,,, i believe its against all the rules of good angling and I will never use it.

i think these kinda problems can be sorted before the match between anglers are fishing next to each other.
in the past i havve asked the next angler where he intends to fish, also what you intend to do.
most of the time this breaks the ice and a compromise can usually be reached

Hi itsme, surely it is illegal under environment law to leave a baited rod in the water unattended? so this should result in instant disqualification! its absoluteley ridiculous and needs reporting! its MORONIC!

Hi curtains, Its hard to reason with arrogance and a win at all costs attitude which is adopted by some of the "wannabe superstars" But i agree its better to get on with fellow anglers, its all a part of enjoying the day.

All the best

fished at cudmore last year where fishing in to the spare peg is usual and couldn't tell who was allowed to fish where or anything. luckily no disputes arose. also fished the trent years ago when some one insisted that half way UPSTREAM was his peg !!
