You have no chance of having any national rules collated or put in place

You have many different types of owners and managers of many different venues
Many have been on courses and hold qualifications for water and fishery management, many have no qualifications what so ever
All hold one thing in common, the welfare of their fishery, not just the welfare of the fishery, but their livelihood. So they will have rules in place, they believe to be the best for their fishery
They will add, remove and change rules as they see fit for the protection of their livelihood. You can’t blame them; it is their living and future

You then have those people who want the NFA Model Rules forced on the whole of the country
NFA (amateurs) are people who love to think they are all important, because a club or clubs have voted them into that position; they are the ones who compose the NFA Model Rules
The NFA Model Rules are not devised for the protection of fish, fisheries or people’s livelihoods, they are put in place to try and level the playing field for anglers involved in matches
To say they are out of date, badly written and open to misinterpretation is an understatement
If I were a fishery owner, there would be no way I would even contemplate using any NFA rules

Before going to any new venue, I check out the rules before I go. If I don’t like the rules, I go somewhere else. If someone breaks a rule, or pushes a rule to the limit, then I let them know

I Know what you mean abbo62 ,
Whilst participating in a match at monk lakes recently , a rather heated argument occured between two anglers about the boundaries to which they could fish .
The cause , was an empty peg between them .
Fishing rules state you may fish up to half the distance between you & the next peg . Easy enough to understand you may think , but what is the ruling if that peg is unoccupied ? Is fishing allowed up to half the distance to the next angler ? I have read many times , about the bonus in fishing the empty platforms to an anglers left or right , are you allowed to do this ?
Does the rule differ between `opens ` & club matches , or is it just a case of different rules for different fisheries?
some match organisers place pegs at every other platform ,ie place one miss one , giving each angler an empty platform to fish to their left or right .
Should they not be doing this ?

Hi Tizzy,NFA rules state half way between anglers, the limit is half way regardless where the pallet is (i say pallet coz it aint a peg if it aint in the draw) unless there is a SPECIFIC fishery rule.

A venue i've recently started fishing is sort of canalized with gap's in the islands, they have string across to the island from the half way point between each peg.this works very well.

Little gearies at Packington Somers does this also and it does work well. There are no arguments. I also think there should be markers on islands with the peg numbers on so its easy to see where and angler can chuck to. Also a plan of the fishery and areas where each angler can fish would be a good idea.
