Angry Pole Joints Getting Stuck Together

HI ONE AND ALL

the old age problem of pole joints getting stuck together???
OK could be that the joints are old and worn???
i was told putting candle wax on them can help??
but are you supposed to light the candle and let the wax drip on it or
just rub the candle on it???

but what if they are not old and worn???
does any one have a solution to just stop them from sticking together??

if anyone can give me some of there tips to help me i would be very much appreciated thanks Dave

Just rub the unlighted plain candle on the male joint and it should be fine. I keep a small candlestick in my box just in case.

Candle wax works well. The other thing that can be done if you are heavy handed is to put the sections together so they fit nicely then with them still together put tape around the male section to stop you pushing the sections on tighter than should in your hurry to ship out again.

I used that system when I used to be really and consistently framed in matches - nothing worse than a stuck joint when you are flying! It also helps with some new poles like the Diawa's where the joints can work loose without you being aware. Having the tape there enables you to see that it is working loose.

I have a problem with one joint sticking in the inside of the other, the only way to get it out is to bang it on a cloth on the floor, then the stuck joint comes out, will candle wax help this problem if I rub it on the joint when breaking down to finish.

Jeff, one way of making sure the joints don't get stuck inside each other is to make sure that they are clean and dry, both on the outside and inside of the sections. A tiny bit of grit will make them stick and also take off some of the varnish. Polishing them on the outside helps as well. If they do get stuck and they are the larger sections then one friendly way to get them out without having to bang them is to use an expanda bung. Tighten it so it just grips the inside of the stuck section and out it comes.

Guess what happened to me on Saturday! There I was bagging up and in my haste to get some more feed out, I shoved the cupping kit on too hard. Could I get it off? - no!!!! Fortunately I had a spare number 4 section but it slowed me down and could have cost me the match as I lost by 2 fish or maybe even one biggun! I always carry a candle with me and give the joints a rub if it gets damp except Saturday!

You can buy PTFE spray cans to simply spray on the joints. It is an excellent way of re-lining the joints. Loads of thin coats. It is about £18 a can, but I think it has worked wonders on my pole joints. Try Haden Browne Plastics in Gloucester 01452 525314. Hope this helps!!
