Default Bread Punch

Right let me start all over again. I put the previous thread on hoping to get some inside information on Marko mbcs recent success on canals using Hair rigged punch on a 26 mp-1b, I have tried this myself and when you can get it right it is devastating, but unfortunately i have only got the bread right once.

Has anyone got any ideas.

Do this night before.....Take your bread......cut of the crusts......rolling pin it flat.......put it over the steam of a kettle......place in a sealed bag.......put it in the fridge ready for next days fishing.

Half the problem is getting the right bread.

Rolling and steaming is ok but not ideal, in the winter we used to prepare this way for the London canals especially when bites where scarce ((it stayed on longer) also it has added advantages of not coming off when fishing it on the waggler.

One of the problems with this method is you can over do it and it wont expand

Another trick was the microwave 15 seconds a slice and it gave you the same properties as steaming

Rive try and get some Mothers Pride it was always the best bread, nice and doughy and the punch itself compresses it enough.

as for hair rigging never tried that

Why would you want to hair rig it, just roll as hard as you can so it is nice and thin cut up into inch squares dust it with flour and bag it up and put in the fridge for a couple of days - always worked fine for me and if you are using the MP1's you can hook a couple of the 2mm pieces no problem and not suffer from missed bites.

I will let the cat out of the bag for you rive , as you know ive travelled with marco for some time now and he as let me into a few of his secrets not all i might add.
From what i can gather this all started because marco allthough pretty good was not quick enough to compete with some of the top anglers and was looking to bridge the gap , he then decided that he was never going to catch the same amount of fish as these top anglers so he needed to increase the size of the fish he was catching , the natural thing to do was to increase the size of punch that he was using but it needed a bigger hook , with the bigger hook in the bread it ruined the presentation as the hook was making the bread sit firmly on the bottom and as you all know the secret to punch fishing is having your punch waft about as the fish stir up the feed you have put in.
This is where the hair rigging came in as it allowed him to fish a very small fine wire hook with a large punch and still hook the fish , i think the key to this method working is not really in the preperation of the bread so much but the way he puts the bread on the hair what he does is push avery fine baiting needle through one side of the punch and then back through so the needle point is on the same side that he started from he then pulls his hair through the two holes and dabs a tiny amount of super glue onto the line running through the punch this makes the punch run parallel to the shank of the hook , allthough the bread will only last so long i the water before it breaks down i have seen him have upto 7 or 8 fish on one piece of punch and he allways catches a bigger stamp of fish to those around him hope this clears it up rive and i will proberbly be traveling on my own for a while now

Do you put the glue on the bread then press the hook on or do you put the glue on the hook the apply to the bread?
