Default Catching shallow on commercials

Hi everyone, I have just started fishing opens at Woodlands View Droitwich. I have been fishing pellet on the deck mainly, catching steady, but the guy opposite me fished shallow at 10 meters all match. He only caught about 8 huge lumps, but won the match with 95LB. I tried it but was biteless. I loose fed, pellet and fished pellet on the hook. 0.14 line and 14 hook.

Can anyone help me with fishing shallow. Big baits? Feeding frequency etc?? Am I looking at catch rate rather than sticking it out for the lumps?

Cheers dudes!

No two days will be the same. You just need to keep changing until you find what catches on a particular day. Change your feed rate, depth, speed of fall through the water, length of line between pole and float, etc. Fish will feed shallow on some pegs but not as much on others, usually better on deeper pegs. Just keep practicing.

last week at boldings i was 2 pegs away from someone who caught shallow all match.... i never had a bite shallow...tried everything and more as Royst says..just one of those things fish will feed shallow in some pegs better than others..you can persevere...then if not working start going deeper.
Alternatively start on deck 7ish meters whilst feeding shallow line 10+ meter longer if necc. All bases covered!! You will normally get the F1s at Woodlands good luck.
The lad who had 95lb might well have known the peg therefor knew to sit out for lumps.......Chris Hill by any chance?

Default shallow fishing

something to think of is some days it takes longer to get the fish into feeding than others.i fished boldings last may and it two hours of constant feeding ten to fifteen pellets three times a minute to start getting them feeding.also i tend to have 3 or 4 shallow rigs set up so you can swap and change the presentation and that sometimes will give you a few more.

feed wise you have to think of what your feeding and the size your feeding as that can make a big difference the noise a 6mm pellet makes compared to a 4mm or a peice of meat.

Feeding is key, Find a pattern then break the pattern, Static baits will not bring bites so keep working your rig because they will take it falling through. Keep confusing and tricking the fish and find a pattern for the day. 6mm-8mm pellets best because they rattle surface and are more accurate to feed. Practice and practice and try differnt things thats what i do.
