Default basics

getting the basics of fishing right seems to be the most important,
rigs
comfort
elastic
plumbing up
hooking of the bait
so just going through them all to try and get all the advice i can on making the basics of my fishing the best it can possibly be, this may also help alot of other anglers on here to see other peoples methods as it may be a better approach then theres.
a few months ago i was shown how to add my hooklink on and what line i needed, i was using 6lb with no bites when i was shown 4lb with 14 carp.
iv recently been looking at shotting patterns and have incorparated new shotting pattens to my rigs instead of just a bulk wich i used to use and the fish i am catching is amazing, my catch rate is out of the roof and its made my fishing so enjoying.
for shallow fishing i use a strung out shotting patten but deep water i use a bulk with 2 small dropping shot, for the natural fall of the bait, seems to be brilliant,
i was advised to spend as much time before a match getting my box right and bieng comfy, recently i spend 40 mins on a peg i did not like getting just my box right, i started fishing 30 mins after everyone else, but still more then doubled there weights.
recently iv been using 14 elastics for my carp work, before it was 20 all the time, the lighter elastic means hooking fish nearly every bite and hardly any bumping, while still confortly getting fish in.
a few months ago i fished a venue were i was o the best peg, easily 200lb on a brilliant day in the summer, but i blanked, was later asked if i fished in the whole, the hole i though, i was then showed were the whole was were all the fish were, it was a 2 ft deep hole a few centimeters to the right of were i was fishing, if i had of plumbed upproberly and felt all round my peg i would have found it and had alot of fish, i didnt and ruined a brilliant opportunity.
last time i went fishing i decided to experiment in hooking of the baits,
leaving the hook showing, burying the hook and just leaving the point showing, normally i leave the hook showing, scared of not bieng able to hook the fish, but this time i buried the hook, and bites came more positivly and more quickly, a big lesson was learnt.

so anyone got anything to share with us about there methods and tricks?
as you can see my fishing has improved dramatically, but it hasnt got to be just mine, if your always trying to improve you can only get better.

Ryan just absorb as much info off people as you can if your pleasure fishing and see someone bagging ask them if you can sit behind them and watch you'll pick up a lot try to ask questions but not to the point of getting on there nerves some people can be touchy, try walking around with the scales at wiegh ins after matches and ask those that have caught how they did it.

It's good to be well prepared but don't take it the extreme, it's only the stuff in the water that catches fish - Most importantly learn as much about feeding and reading how and why to change the way your feeding in my opinion it's the most important aspect of fishing.
