Default Bite indication

I had a day off work last Thurs & went for a practice session. I was fishing in about 6 foot of water & it was quite blustery.
Anyway, I ended up with between 15lb to 20lb of skimmers & small roach.
Thing is three of the skimmers I hooked without knowing they were there (decided to ship back & found a fish on).
Obviously I was happy to catch them & would've been even happier in a match but would've preferred to have seen some indication & have lifted into the fish rather than just be lucky, also makes me wonder how many I might have missed.
Question is do you just accept sometimes this happens or should I have altered something ? .
I was on a 0.8g float & about an inch overdepth & 3/8 to 1/2 inch showing, with a bulk 14 inch from the hook & a couple of droppers, & using mainly pellet or sweetcorn on the hook.
Hope there's enough info there for an answer !

push your droppers together and make a double bulk. and may be fish 2-6 inches over depths and have the bulk closest the hook an inch of bottom

i dont know how much tow you had or problems with small roach and rudd on the drop but the 0.8 float seams slightly heavy try a 0.6 or a 0.5. or if its deadly calm try a 0.4

droppers are useless if they don't register on the float if they do then have your bottom one closer to the hook 1" to 2" off the deck for skimmers a good place to start keep moving shot as bites change to keep em coming.

Sometimes you have to just accept those bonuses!

It could possibly be that those fish have grabbed the bait as you moved it. Very often skimmers can be caught well on a moving bait. Whether fishing the pole, the waggler, or the feeder, a very slow pull on the bait will bring unmissable bites from skimmers.
On venues like Porth and Upper Tamar, there used to be times you could only get a fish by 'pulling one on to the hook' while feeder fishing. Basically, you very slowly pulled the rod, a foot at a time until you felt a fish hit the bait. The introduction of braid lessened the impact of that style of fishing.
On the pole, you often have to slowly drag the bait into the wind. It is exactly the same as getting your bulk shot to pick up the undertow.
