Default strange float behaviour

fished yesterday and set up two identical colmic floats 4 x 14 funny thing was one took 5 no9 stotz to shot right down the other just 2 no9 stotz. weird both looked identical in size bristle thickness stem thickness same everything. has any one come across such a big discrepency in identical floats before?? the only thing i could think of was the carbon stem may have been different density or weight it was the same length in both and looked the same thickness so not sure.

yes ct i have at the mo i am getting ready for my holiday at dock lows so i am in my fishing study which is my loft. relining all my floats and reshoting them as well, so i am using the water tank in the loft,, i have two floats which are identical and i to notice that they shoting was different. i to use stotzes to one float took 5 no 9 the other took 9 no9 that is also a big difference they were both garbolino floats i also had the same with other makes to the same thing. i think it could be that they are letting water inside the float so i am going to re varnishing them i let you know if it that a part from that i would not know what it could be.......

This sounds like a balsa issue,

I would suggest the two floats are made from different density balsa, this is apparent in balsa that is fast grown, its less dense with bigger grain, this will react totally different to a body made from balsa with a close grain.

The only other possibility is the body could be made from basswood often confused as they look similar, basswood however is a lot more dense and would take less shot.

It is possible for carbons to differ in mass Im not sure it would make that much difference maybe 1 stot at max

It's marvellous, the best way I have heard of for shotting floats, must buy a ladder and try it myself
