Default quality issues with preston products

is it just me but i am finding loads of quality of issues with preston.first both hinges snapped off the seat of my x4 seat box (send it back to where you got was their responce) now the bottom clips arnt lining up as the top unit seems to be sitting slightly off square so i have to force it to fasten them.and one of the leg fastners slips no matter how hard i tighten it so if i lean over to the right the box starts to rock.its only 6 months old. my new pro flat roller is showing signs of rust been used maybe four times, my pole roost tripod set has broken the thread under the roost has come off the head.
got to say i have had the hard case carryall and holdall for years and they are brilliant still in fantastic nick so expected the same of my recent purchases but sadly they just dont cut it. very dissapointed

I am in full agreement with you, they have very good idea's but the build quality is poor. I have a preston seat box and have had to replace the bolts holding the mud feet on, i have had to drill out the pop rivets on the legs so i could araldite the locking nuts back in place. I have also had the hinge pins fall out and replaced them with welding rod. I had a bait brolley which broke after aprox 10 uses.

At the moment i am looking to get a rive or milo seat box because there is nothing worse than wobbling on the box all day or worrying that i am going to go in the drink if i lean to far one way.

I also have the hard case luggage and would buy those again.

Its alright having cheap equipment probably built in china but if its not fit for purpose you will be better of buying the more expensive gear that will last.

i had the on box6 draw, didn't have a lot of problems with it, but i did have the same thing on the legs thou. on one of them you could not screw it in or out so you could not adjust it. gone off Preston a bit now don't think there quality is as good now.

ct the bro was all for preston but he has change now he has notice the lack of quality in some of the stuff they put out but not all they still make some good thing's . the bro did have a preston box think it was x6 or 6x not sure, now he has a milo 1400 and what a nice piece of kit .. i have a milo to not as good as his but he has the top of the market on box and i have got just a normal one but i have had no problems with it at all i have had on boxes in the past and had the some problem as you slightly off square where you sit on it and on box gos out of shape and out square all i can say ct get a new one and get a milo and get it with the roller arm nice bit of kit that quality

I suppose you get what you pay for if you go fishing a few times a month the preston boxes will probably last, however if you go fishing once or more a week you will have to bite the bullet and buy a milo or reve so you have confidence in it and are comfortable when fishing.

Has mentioned before they have some very good idea's its just a shame it is let down by the build qaulity.

yes, preston competition poles have been poor, braking very regularly somthing like 5 sections broke in under 15 matches using them when iv been there, about 6 months old aswell, just gone from preston to maver, and know of people that have done the same, the new poles are beautyfull to hold and play fish on and the new rods are top quality, aswell as the new luggage and clothing range, top notch stuff with really good quality, i think maver are going to the top and nocking preston off the top as the best company, garbelino are not far behind though.

Preston make good gear but I havta say the seatboxes do fall to bits. I'm currently on my third Preston box now. The last one the frame bent as did the legs. The handles on the slide out trays have snapped off all my boxes. I think I'm going to come over and get the new Matchbox it looks just what I'm after. Or a Fox Staxbox. Picked one up the other day and it was superlight

Default Preston Product

I think it is difficult to name one company only as being the best or the top company - Preston, Shimano, Daiwa, etc have a wide range of product & some probably are seen as better than others, albeit subjective. Some products have the edge, or wider useage at different times. I personally have used for the past 5 years exclusively the Preston CM80 pole which i am finding very difficult to replace for same money with confidece - this pole has been faultless. On the other hand i got the original hardcase luggage which proved to be very poor on build quality but the Daiwa Tournament luggage i now use is the best i have used. Thus proving that not one company will win with every product every time! I am sure if any of us have sponsored anglers as friends they would tell you that whilst they use that product they would not personally buy the range completely, but be selective across the board if they were a humble club angler like me!!

i pretty much only use preston for all my tackle. this is becuase or should i say was becuase the build quality was excellent, the price was good, and there customer service was second to non. and over the last three months i have noticed problems with all that i have mentions.

customer service is crap,
build quality is very poor,
and there will be a 7% price increase on evrything in a few months. plus they are going to stop making lots of there tackle, including some of there feeders, pole rollers, flat and vee ones, some rods but dont know which ones, pole roosts. and quite a few more i have been informed.
