Ok as promised, I fished my club match today at Lathom Fisheries, Burscough, Lancs. Heres my honest appraisal of the Polar Ice pellets and Schnitzel Wurst jelly pellets.
We fished Pond No4 on the venue, which is basically a bit of a stock pond, stuffed with small barbel, carp and orfe. I started off just a rod length out (we are a "rod and line" only club by the way) but using a pole rig as sensitivity was the key here, and fished dead depth for the first half hour of the 4 hour match. From the off I used the Polar Ice Pellets (4mm version) and instantly got about the small carp. The bites were always confident as I was feeding micro pellet every 30 seconds or so, the bright white pellet seemed to get the fish homing in as soon as the bait sank to around a foot or so under water. This prompted me to put a dibber type pole rig on set around 18 inches deep and I continued to catch carp throughout. During the last half hour I noticed a few of the other lads were starting to catch the barbel which were all around the 1lb mark, so I decided to try my left margin using the Scnitzel Wurst pellets (6mm) again dead depth. First put in, barbel, 2nd put in barbel, and so on until the whistle. I'm not totally sure the pellets made the difference today as it was such a highly stocked pond, however it has given me a lot of confidence going into my next match next Sunday that I can catch confidently with them. The consistency of the pellets was excellent, allowing me to quickly rebait my hook and flick out a cast with ease and no worry about the pellet flying off mid cast.
I finally weighed 18lb 12oz to claim third overall today which doesn't seem much but there were around 100 fish in the net to make that up. I'm convinced if I had tried the margin early doors and found those barbel I would have easily taken the match. (20lb 14oz won, 20lb 9oz 2nd)
Carp Vader seem to be onto a winner with these baits, they really are excellent. I will keep you posted on next weeks match. Should be able to make a lot better judgement as it is a more difficult venue.
