Default Fishing with pellets

Went fishing at Packington Somers this afternoon. I took VDE RS Elite expanders and some maggots just to make sure I caught something. I started off with the pellets (4mm) and had my first fish – a crucian – after five minutes fishing. I was very surprised after about 40 minutes later when I caught a gudgeon on a pellet; I was shocked that it took a pellet. I tried to get rid of them by putting extra pellets out but this just seemed to attract even more. . Anyway, I ended up catching about five of the bleeding things and wasn’t too pleased.

What is the best thing to do to prevent small fish from taking these pellets? I obviously want to catch fish but not those sort of fish!!!!!! Am i using the best sort of pellets???

I buy pellets from the feed store and add flavouring to them, you could try that or try bigger pellets

which lake has got gudgeon in never seen one myself, if you want to target the tench & carp try a bit of corn or fish double pellet and the skimmers should have a go too. You must be very unlucky to catch a gudgeon there.

I was fishing on crescent - one of the small pools. I know not to fish on these small pools again.

Went on Grats today and had 20 plus Tench - 12 in excess of 3lb. I used RS Elite 4mm till 9.30 and then tried 6mm ringers there after. I expected to catch biggers fish with the 6mm but this was not the case.

Hey Mate,

I think you may find the fish had more confidence in the 4mm hook bait's than the 6mm ones.
