Had me scratching my head on the bank today though, as I decided that if anything I would probably undershot in a tube. Thought my float was damaged & taking on water when it kept slowing going under. Put another rig on & the same thing happened, took a shot off & all was ok in the water but my head was still saying 'that can't be right ....... maybe I think too much.
Thinking about it, both floats were Drennan Tipo 0.25g - just wondered if these floats have a history of absorbing water or similar problems or if it was most likley overshotting due to the tube ?

Ian a 0.25grm float is very small, the smaller the neck of your shotting tube the greater the surface tension, if you dont break that tension your float will need more shot.

take that rig to a canal or a pool and the surface tension is minimal, your float will undoutably sink.

set up a test fill your test tube with clean water shot up your float
add a few drops of washing up liquid and put the same float shotted up in the tube, it will more than likely sink.

there was a trick I see once where a coin was balance on the surface tension of a glass it was a pub trick and the guy won a lot of money with it.
