I was toying with creating a site where people could input their own results etc a while back but never got round to it. I definately think there is a little niche for someone there. A lot of websites have Venue Sections and Match results sections but nothing that is too user friendly.

I think one of the reasons for the lack of information in this area, is the amount of data that needs to be entered is emmense, its not a one man job and would need a small team unless you do it regionally, and then of course you not covering all the ground. the other issue is you risk becomming a commercial enterprise that will need funding.
There are however a few ways to do this, the data could be collected from the groups that participate in the intersite matches, this would cover a huge area and a large database of users, the use of scripts would need to be implemented and it would have to be user driven with regards to data imput, this would then sort arrange and upload the data to the correct areas and in the correct format. there are some content managers that can deal with this but they need moderating, another time issue.
I know Simon is familiar with Joomla that will do the job quite nicely, it could be centrally driven and the main sites from the intersite could draw off the data as needed.
I was going to speak to Simon about something similar as I am fed up with hunting for open matches, another area thats not that well covered,
One things for sure it can be done but its far too big a job for one guy and a pc, and relies on users and accurate information.
certainly food for thought

Your spot on!
It would be great to have a list of potential opens to chose from and also some recent results to help make the decision of where to go.
My pc skills are on the limit typing this,so sorry I can't help!
Cheers....Mark

as i currently dont fish matches there wouldnt be much use for me but i can see that for people looking for matches it would be extreamly useful and knowing how previous matches have gone would also be useful.
I think it could be set up quite easierly(this is not me voluntering) and yes there would be a lot of data but then it depends how much info you want really, if it was just date, location, entry fee, and prize money then this would be fairly easy.
Also there is a callender funtction on the forum, would it not be possible to have matches that people know about entered on there? just an idea, obvousily that would help much for results but its a starting point maybe.
thats my 2p worth anyways

Hi all, I had all the stuff ready to launch a site that dealt with this (nationally) a couple of years ago. I started with one in the Gloucestershire region but sadly few people helped me out and uploaded their matches/results. I did the leg work of ringing round for a few weeks to get it going but it got too much.
This was before I found this site and had no idea if other anglers were interested... If people here think it's a good idea then I may consider relaunching my site... Thoughts?!

Deffo a goer Ladyangler. I had a bit of an excel sheet which did the calcs for kgs - lbs ounces and drams and even allocated section points etc accordingly. I will mail it to you if you want. My thinking was that this would be used as part of a template where users would just "fill in" the info, such as venue, date, weather then their top ten weights etc...

Thanks WiganDan, the site I'd put together just had a form to fill in the location and results etc... I'll try and dig it out (make a few changes!) and put it live again in the next month or so.

well while i was at work and bored i created the following.
openmatches
i can change the info it holds and can make any item sortable, this would just list the matches in the future, if people like the idea i will continue.
I could make 1 of the items a link to another page that would show the results for that particular event.
This would all depend on people providing me with the details of match though at the moment.
anyway let me know what you think, i am aware that more info would be required this is just a basic template and there also not true matches
