I expect most people will have their favourite floats and manufacturers. The thing to remember is: once you've found a style of float you can get on with, stick with it (assuming it's right for the conditions you face) and don't confuse yourself by swapping around floats.
Most pole floats are very well made nowadays, so pick a pattern that is readily available where you live. Then you can always replace broken ones easily.
Buy as many as you can afford in the same pattern, probably one size bigger and smaller than you need, then you can have multiples set up in case of tangles, changing conditions etc.
