Default Pole Rig Help?

Have just started fishing with a pole and wanted some advice, I am intending to make up my own rigs, I fish on commercials stocked with mostly carp, could anyone tell me of a good all round float for fishing maggot and corn on the hook, as i have just started making my own rigs i dont want to try and complicate things with trying to use loads of different floats to make up my rigs.

I would go for the Garbolino DC6 its cheap stable and works very well, if your new to commercials and pole fishing there is no point buying the real expensive floats, ( your going to break and loose a few)

That will deal with most of your general purpose fishing, maggots corn worms bread etc

You may want a few dibbers small floats for fishing down the edge these are good for pushing right into the reeds and are quite boyaunt so baits like corn and meat can be used with them quite easily.

These floats are very well priced and both average around £1.30.

Most floats are designed to catch anglers as well as fish hence all the pretty colours you wont go far wrong with the DC range

Personally I'd go for a KC Carpa chimp excellent all round float.

The DC6 is an excellent float for shallower water, although the bigger sizes will be fine in deeper water.
So you need to consider what kind of commercial you are fishing in. Is it a snake lake type? Or more standard lakes?
Once the water is over 3', you might want to consider a float with a metal stem rather than carbon. Especially if they lakes are open to the wind.

Assuming you are fishing swims into less than 3' with corn and maggots for fish to 4lb max (my guess if you are fishing maggot and corn), the DC6 in 0.1g and 0.2g should cover most situations. Another alternative is the Preston Chianti in 4x10 and 4x12 if you are fishing sheltered swims, or the Mosella Manic Impact 6 in th esame size. Effectively the same float as the Chianti but with a high-viz bristle instead of cane.
Make up the rigs on 5' of 0.14mm line tied direct to a size 16 B911 hook, shotted with a small bulk of No10 shot (3, 4 or 5 depending on the float size you're using). Elasticate with a number 10 solid, or grey hydro equivalent and you should be in business.
That kind of rig will land carp to 7-8lb if you hook one as a bonus, plus ensure you put all the silvers in the net as well.
If the swims are deeper, choose the KC Carpa Chimp, as suggested, or a DC11. Shotted with a bulk of No10s or No 8s depending on th edepth of water oyu are fishing into. Probably something in the order of 4x14 or 0.3 or 0.4g, which should take around 5 No8 shot and perhaps two No10 droppers. Lines and hooks as before.

Good luck...
