Default Need some help

Im going to be fishes matches on my local club waters this season, (not been fishing for 3-4yrs) and i'm wanting to start making some pole rigs suitable for all the situations i'm likely to come across.

The waters are faily small (30-40pegs) but are very deep, even close in, there are no shallow areas, even the margins are 3-4ft deep and they just keep sloping away to around 30ft (75ft in one water).

Many years ago i used to use a 6m tele pole fished to hand and with the hook on the bottom the float would be 18inch to 2ft away from the pole tip, so yes, deep close in.

What i'm asking is what rigs should i make up to cover most situation, target species are Roach mostly 2-4oz but up to 1lb, skimmers mostly 2-4oz but a few 10-14oz, a few Bream up to 3-4lb, Chub to 1 1/2lb, and Rudd, Perch and Gudgeon.
Baits mostly maggots, casters, pinkies and small worms.

On a good day matches are won with 30lb plus (normaly when the bigger Bream put in an appearance) other than that 10lb is good enough, and on a realy bad day 3-4lb can win.

Depending on the peg you draw you can have anything from 6ft to 18ft depth at 6m, or 12ft to 25ft depth at 12m.

1 more thing, the waters do have some shelter, so depending on where you draw you could be sat with no wind and the water flat calm infront of you (handy when your trying to wave around 6m of line from your pole) or sat facing into a strong wind (only 1/2mile from the coast it gets very windy here)

So what rigs should i make up? Im thinking to have rigs with 2,3,4,5 and even 6m of line should cover most situations.

But should i have different floats for different situations? or different line diameter etc etc.

Can anyone offer some advice, on float weights, line dia, hooklength dia, hook size, float shapes and anything else that you think i might need to think about.

Thanks,

Scott.

i dont think there would be any reason to use different types of float scott just a matter of finding a float you like using, i like the garbolino ds13 or the sensas pisa in deep water the line goes through the body on both floats so no chance of ripping the eyes out, but a drennan tipo would be ok, your going to need a reasonable tip on the float due to any undertow that might occur in that depth of water, olivettes or even drilled bullets would be the way to go in those depths and floats upto 4 or even 6gram, to get the bait down quickly, as for line the fish are not going to be line shy in that depth of water and your going to need something strong and robust that will with stand the weight of shot on your line and the actual landing / swinging of fish

hope this helps
