My Mistake mate it isnt a DAM one it the Ryobi techno match (just been to look) well the Abu's gotta be the best but the Ryobi one was very good and i used to use it for all by stick float work The abus were for waggler and even used one loaded with 5lb line on commercials

I have an Abu 704 here, had it for quite a number of years and its spot on for what i want although i did remove one of the pick ups as it used to jam.

Before you invest in a closed face reel have a go at trotting with a ordinaray fixed spool reel, one with a wide shallow spool is ideal. I've owned closed face reels in the past but am now convinced they are not nearly as good as a good fixed spool reel. If its the traditional thing your after go all the way and get a centerpin.

Still use a couple on the Trent - a 506 and and Diawa 123M

Used to have a couple of 501s along with a coffe grinder (CF) but they went for a walk

Tradition b*llocks. You get much better contact with a closed face. Pete Warren still uses one for stick work and that to me speaks volumes.
