Advice on Tackle Insurance
As the title above says, I need some advice on tackle insurance.
First off is it worth it? Is your tackle covered under your house insurance or is this company dependant?
Also if any any of you do have tackle insurance, who are you with and what should I be paying?
Any other information feel free to add
I found this website E&L - Angling Insurance Policy Rates which shows how much you pay according to price of your tackle, is the price you choose what your tackle is worth or how much you paid for it? Because obviously to replace it you will need the cost you paid for it in order to claim the equivalent back?
Thanks in advance for any replies

Tackle Insurance
Short answer is a resounding yes - tackle Insurance is worth it. The question is who do we Insure with? Well, i was with E & L & believed this was geared up for Anglers taking into account the value of our equipment in particular whilst in use, especially poles. I was wrong - no claim will be accepted for tackle damaged in use. This also applies, certainly now, with Insurance companies in the UK providing Home Insurance. Therefore, what we believed was a bespoke Tackle Insurance meeting Anglers needs will infact only offer the same as your household cover, apart from added extras such as cover for Personal injury, etc.
Therefore, my advice is contact your household Insurance cover & state that under the section of Personal Possessions (which at the moment is probably Unspecified items) you wish to specify items of Fishing tackle. Before doing this list your tackle giving a value & ask the question regarding the limit on a single item. For example, many anglers now have poles with a value of £2000, but the Insurance company on a specified item may pay a maximum of £1500.
It is always good to keep original receipts, particularly on items in excess of £100. An up to date list of your equipment & photographs of your equipment insured. Stating also where you leave the equipment when unattended - like in a Garage, shed or in the house. In the event of a claim it is usually New for old with an excess of between £50 - £100. What this means is if you bought a pole 6 years ago for £500 which is now discontinued the nearest equivalent pole may have a new value of £650.
The fact of the matter is you insure your tackle against theft ie, from your shed or Accidental damage in your home. Whilst fishing you have to be very careful. However for an extra few pounds a month its a small price to pay for piece of mind.

You need to ask your self this
if it gets stolen can I offord to replace it off my own back ?
You know its expensive but what isnt, I had my kit stolen approx 10 yrs ago the insurance I has was good they came down asked a few questions got the crime number and paid out in full new for old,
I got a letter with the cheque explaining that my fishing equipment was deemed to be specialist sports equipment and that although they paid me out when my term of cover finished in 4 weeks I would need to seek another company for that type of insurance
I kid you not 5 weeks after that letter, I lost the lot I came back from a match tired, I went into the house made myself a cup of tea and fell asleep I woke at 2am and the van had been broken into and It was all gone.
My first cheque was for 7.5k the second was zero this was part of the reason I have been out of this game for 9/10 years.
Guys if you value your sport, its paramount you get your kit covered, I cant stress enough how gutted I was when I see the window missing from the van.
Just a further note your poles and rods are only half the value of your gear I will garauntee the bits and bobs equal the cost of your rods and poiles dont undervalue

cheers for the quick reply, thats not too bad to be fair, on E&L for insurance up to 7.5k its £242. I suppose when you look at it another way its only just over £4 a week too. Cheers again for your advice, I shall do some investigating into the house insurance

Steve you might want to try a product called tacklewise fishing protection at Tacklewise Fishing Protection - UK & Worldwide Fishing Cover Insurance. I have just taken out a policy which gives me £10,000 equipment cover, breakage for my poles and rods whilst in use and 5 year new for old cover on replacing equipment. I have also noticed and i will double check with them that as far as i understand if you catch and it is verefied british record fresh water fish the company will pay a one off prize of up to £7,500 depending on what cover you take out. I have just taken the Gold cover for uk coarse fishing for £175.00 for the year and this level of cover gives me the oppotunintiy to claim the £7,500. Worth a look I would say.
Cheers Peter Pike

LOL it sure looked like it
How does the five year new for old work thats seems to be a flaw to me its basically writing of a pole thats over 5 years old, how do they deal with items over 5 years old do they have a deprechiation scale ? they would need a lot of fishing knowledge
Some items of tackle become more valuble with age I wonder how they would value my Ariel or Golden Eagle wizzers, from memory they were purchased with shillings
