Smile Hydro & Line

Hi guys,

Im looking to purchase some white and black hydro for my pole power kits for the new season. Im planning to fish a local commercial full of carp averaging around 3-5lb with also the good chance of hooking doubles.

Id like to know what line is recommended for both white and black hydro.

Cheers

White Hydro carries an approximate rating of 6-10

Black Hydro carries an approximate rating of 12-16+

With a 6-10 elastic i'd be lucking to catch mainly silvers, and to cope with any bonus carp or tench i'd look at employing a pull bung to cope a little better. With this in mind i'd be looking to use anything between 2-4lb, i'd probably use an 0.11 or 0.12, with a size 18/20 hook, or depending on patterns a 16 at max.

With a 12-16 elastic you should be able to cope with most carp up to mid doubles depending on how tight you set it. With this in mind i'd be looking to use anything from 4-8lb depending on average fish size and the snagginess of the peg. in open water use something like 0.15 and close to snags anything from 0.18+. Hooks from an 18 upwards depending on the bait. You'll struggle to use a spade end 18 on 0.18 line though but the Preston PR36's have quite a large eye so you can still use a knoteless knot with this hook pattern.

I've heard a lot of people using black hydro say that it is too stretchy and that they still get run ragged from carp of 5-6lb. Personally I use latex elastics in all my top kits and have no problems using a size 14 for fish up to 9-10lb. Personally i can't afford to spend £15 per top kit. But using latex (i use sensas or maver) i can get two kits done for less than £3.

Hope this helps, Steve

I'm just in the process of using grey hydro 10 to14, fish are running me ragged, they are taking longer to get in but had no hook pulls, landed fish to 8 pound on 0.14, got to say I like it just need it a bit tighter, all hooked fish landed so far.

Default Hydro/Dual Core

I've tried/used both and always go back to solid latex.
More important is the way you play fish than spending your hard eaned money on over-priced elastic.
Check out the top guys and they ofeten use solid.
I've had 400lbs + of carp to 10lbs in my last 3 matches on the same 14-16 latex. Lost very few fish and got them out quicker than anglers around me who were using Hydro or Dual.

Save the white for the winter and pick up some grey. Really is good stuff. Check out fishermans friend for hydro. They are doing 5 for 60 quid. Let me know if you ned the number. They do it by mail order if you cant get there.
