Default pole float advice please

Hi i am just wondering if anyone can tell me what size floats are for what depths . This has always confused me as i can never find the answer or advice anywere . I s there a rule of thumb. To be honest i seem to use 4x 14 floats when i am fishing local comercials most of them are around 4-6ft deep (don't know if that is correct or not) i would just like to see some kind of chart that tells me something like 4x10 = 3ft, 4x12=4ft, 4x14= 5ft etc i am sure you get the drift!
Someone must be able to tell me maybe someone who makes floats, but i would like the answer to be clear not people saying well i use this and then another saying that they use it totaly different if that makes sense!

Generally in calm conditions .1 of a gram per foot of water,ie..6g in 6ft,but if the waters towing because of the wind etc 4 x 18 or even 1gram could be used to keep the bait steady/still in that depth, margins 4 x 10 or 4 x 12 are popular sizes.

if only it was so straight forward , there are just to many factors involved to be a rule of thumb what you need to do is get out there and experiment try different size floats in different conditions and see what works for you

you cant beat getting out and trying yourself pal,the more you go the more you learn, plus what works for 1 does not mean it is set in stone.every time i go i learn more about shotting, hook size so on.1 good tip is to find a float you like and stick with it and build your set ups around it.at the mo i find 4no 12 seem to be perfect for most pools i go to,and without doubt garbalino dc3 the most versatile 4 silvers and carp.
in short get out at the end of the day its a case of trial and error.

Ello lad,
As i think everyone has said its pretty much down to you. From my own personal view i dont really like to go anything above 4 x 14, occasionally in really deep water il go heavier or at time when i want to get the bait on the deck as fast as possible. I think the only thing i would really say is body shape. I prefer the more steamlined slimmer floats for commercials. Another thing an this is for everyone else, i just wonder what you think. Have you ever thought that tackle companies preston, drennan etc have ever thought about making the bristles on pole floats shorter. The reason i say this is because i myself and the majority of anglers i fish with have there float dotted down.
