Default paste and undertow

i am still getting to grips with this paste fishing lark but i need something explaining.yesterday fished a local lake with a couple of lads one who is very good on paste. anyway blowing a gale and the undertow was really strong but i fished a .5g float and regardless of how i shot it it dragged through yet my mate fished 4 x 12 and his only dragged when his paste come off. i was catching after it had moved 2m so there was definately paste still on the hook. he fished at 11m i fished at 6m so i sat behind him same size lump of paste so why did my rig move and his not couldn't work it out! i had about 35lb he probably had double.HELP

As He Fished At 11mtrs You Would Find That The Tow Was Not As Strong As You At 6mtrs . If Its Towing Next Time You Just Go Out Further As The Natural Movement Of Water In Windy Conditions Always Pull The Worst Nearer To The Bank And Slows Nearer To The Middle

I would expect deeper water to tow less

Possibly because you had more weight down the line, so a bigger surface area to pick up the tow?

So many things can make this happen thick carbon stems dont help with tow try a thin wire stem also long floats help

you can make your float longer by adding weight below the float say around 6 to 8 inches below and then add a back shot or two this will give you a lot more control this is easy if your using a strung bulk as you already have the shot on the line, just slide a few up.

It will lay on the water clumsy but dont worry about that

tried that justin shot under float(recall your previous advice about wind and tried it) didn't make any difference. i've had a bit of time to think about it and i reckon my heavier float was 'bossing' the paste where as my mates lighter float was being affected by the wind ie being blown against the tow which was countered by his paste and therefore on his rig the paste was 'bossing' the float. anyway i have redone some alternative rigs and will be off on sunday to try them out. many thanks for all advice.
