Totally agree, fish plenty of opens and often see people go walk about, nothing wrong in it, the prolem here seems to be that because its a well known angler its an easy target for some people to have a cheap shot at, if it bothers you that much don't take part in these matches and don't by "HIS" magazine.

Just to clear it up from my point - it's not about what happens anywhere else or who you are. It's about sticking to the rules, all that needs to happen for this venue/match is the rule gets deleted from the list & then the problem's solved - everyone can go walkabout... might annoy anglers on the middle pegs though.. but as long as they're not big names it won't matter.
I don't like loosing money but I would take a bet that if it were a numpty nobody walking about the rule would have quickly been pointed out to him/her.

I believe the no walk-about rule was brought in to stop match anglers going back to their car for more bait etc during a match. Sounds as tho the rules are becoming relaxed to suit modern custom.

Thumbs up

I must say the open matches I fish, people do go walk about if they are not catching and nobody bothers, sometimes it also helps to give your swim a rest if you have caught nothing and when you retun you seem to catch. Personally I do not see much wrong with going for a walk, maybe the rules need changing.

The way i see it is that if someone wants to go for a walk , its one less to worry about . You can use it to your advantage to find out whats been caught and then change methods to suit , i think people just think , if he aint on his box he aint gonna catch so dont say anything

Leaving your peg leaves an empty quiet spot for the fish to move into especially if the peggings tight...

No thats not true, that particular rule was being inforced by the NFA and other match Organisers long befoire bait limits ever came into effect.

There are lots of reasons for that rule one that springs to mind is being skylined there is nothing worse when your bagging close in then the fish just stop out of the blue, you look round and some dude has been standing behind you in the skyline.

Lots of top anglers go for a stroill when nothings happening it gives thier peg a rest and you get to see what others are doing, I think its a stupid rule but its there to protect anglers from stupid anglers, people like Dave Harrel know how to conduct themselves on the bank, they wont get in your way and rarely skyline you.
