I think their are a lot of harsh comments been posted here . The way i see it is that there were 16 anglers who have been on a major TV channel for over 5 hours with there name in lights so to speak . Just to get to the final is a massive achievement and i bet most if not all of them appreciate that so for people to start slat-ting sky sports is out of order . My team once fished the Angling Times winter league final , we knew that wed finish near the bottom but look at the bigger picture , its the taking part that's boss and what a day it was. These guys are all experienced and know the score and id be very surprised if anyone of them started gobbing off about the the event . Hey Ive an idea , why dont we fish the match indoors so things like the wind cant be an influence ! Well done to Sky and to all who took part and to the competitors who were gracious in defeat

You never saw a float go under, towards the end, in the last hour sky right stuck with the top two, at one point in the last half hour, I think it was the 'winning' carp, you saw the cast but then you only watched his face, why not focus on the flaot and see if it goes down, if they did we would of seen him land a carp or something. Instead all we saw was faces.

That was my little gripe.

MY two main complaints are these

1st - LITTER

Andrew Neal the welsh guy had litter in his swim for the entire competition. I spent some of my time yesterday collecting litter out of my swim and the swim next door, I didnt put any in yet I saw it as my place to remove it. Also I dont want to be chucked off and I also thinnk a little bit of effort makes it much better for everyone.

So Andrew Neal why did you have litter in your swim for 5 hours, I bet if I fished Cudmore and had a mars drinks bottle in my swim for 5 hours I would get chucked off. Such a great advert for angling that was, welldone.

Second - Smoking

Smoking in sport is banned, so why did we watch Andrew (again) smoke a ciggerette, such a great advert for the sport again, why didnt sky cut away? it is not Andrews fault, it is skys coverage. They should have cut away when he pulled his fags out of his pocket, look at the darts and snooker they have banned smoking, they lost all the sponsorship money.

If we want this to be seen as much as a sport as any other then sky have done us no favours, and maybe the fishing authorites who run fish o mania might have to bring in a a ban of smoking while the comp is on.

It wasnt a bad show and on the whole it was pretty good. But it can be better IMO

There was such a strong wind that day that the litter was blowing in from people on the bank behind not putting it in the bins. Andrews runner was trying to pick some of it up, but at the end of the days he's fishing for 25k with sky camera's in his face and constantly hitting his pole with the camera on a long rod and trying to wire him up etc. He's under enough pressure as it is (nearly having had his pole broken twice) and the last thing he wants to worry about is a mars drink. Besides which there are enough NFA Stewards there who surely could have picked up any litter as it was being blown down. On a normal match then yes remove it I always would, and I know Andrew would too. Litter is unacceptable without doubt and in fairness to Cudmore and the staff there they had umpteen litter pickers working tirelessly after the crowds had gone picking it all up. Unfortunatly with crowds comes litter and the wind was blowing towards Andrew

Re: The smoking, he didnt smoke any when the match was on . Yes he had one just before the all in and then after it had finished, but he purposely didnt have one through the 5 hours because of the cameras.

I've grown up and fished with Andrew for 20 years now (since we were 10!) and there's no way he would normally leave litter in his peg. In events like this you need to be focused, so focused that your switched off from whats going on around you and out of interest his runner scooped it out after the match was over, as well as helping pick up some other litter than was in the area when the litter pickers were out doing a great job

Ebb, it was there from the first moment. A steward and Sky should have done something about it, and maybe his bank runner fish out the offending article. It puts us in a very bad light.

I dont agree with the smoking in golf, I know Daly and the spanish guy do smoke cigars, aong wiht one or two others, never seen a caddy myself. Often tho the cameras switch to someone else. It is not a picture that golf wants. I havent said they can not smoke, it is the picture that they are painting. The picture should have switched as soon as he got his ciggs out of his pocket.

Again Sky should have done this, they have made a dogs dinner of the events coverage IMO, that was my first and probably last time watching fish o mania. I could have found a 100things better to do than to watch it.

Richie your idea is not new i have been advocating indoor fishing for years ..spoken to the NEC and presented them with plans about covering the pendigo lake and lighting it. No one wants to outlay all the money .and an application for a euro grant is going thorugh as we speak also a bid into the lottery .This will not just be for angling the boat show has a large interest in it as well.the only people not interested are the tv..they wont commit to any thing in till its covered...there are lots of ideas in the pipe line bringing them to fruition is a lot harder.................and finally on a lighter note Talk Angling have banned smoking on all there matches..we are always first with ground breaking rules

Maybe a purpose built indoor donut venue with tv cameras in the roof etc, so the filming can be done without any hinderence or interference to the angler is just what a major televised match needs. Maybe it isn't such a madcap idea as it first sounds. Could even have underwater cameras fitted to give the viewer an insight into the feeding habits of the fish. All we need is a loony billionaire to fund it. Hiow about mr. branson? He's always up for a new challenge.

we have tried all sorts of investors Birmingham and Solihull councils are in favor and have said they may be able to add funds to the pot when it gets a little nearer..September 21st is the date we hear back from Brussels and we have got to stage 2 with the lottery...this is not a mad cap idea its a fully fledged serious bid and we are hoping to pull it off . i can not tell you who else is involved yet but watch this space.....its a mega name and you wont belive it

Indoor fishing what utter bull, the idea of it is stupid, there is a whole lot more to fishing than just catching fish, if thats what the match man wants then build a big tank with viewing holes fill it full of pet fish but please make it round just in case some one gets a corner to fish too. Theres a whole lot more to fishing than just catching fish, or am I living in the past because it seems to me that anglers younger than me want instant success, instant sponsorship, without ever having to work for it.
End pegs were no doubt a feature on most of the qualifiers and proved to be the winner on a few, our own Matt6900 qualified from a pool everyone at the Barston qualifier wanted to be on, and if you read his posts he tells us why I was not possible to peg the whole pool, has he moaned that the winner came from an end peg, my guess he has not and accepted the situation, ask him if he would want to fish next years match given the same sort of pegging, you bet he would.
As for Saturdays match just maybe the winner done it right and all the talk of end pegs is giving no credit for a fine angler.
