Default Fishing, or is it ???

After another good weight day at Rockells Farm in Essex, I know some people dont call it fishing because its too easy there! Read my blog here http://www.talkangling.co.uk/upload/blogs/neilio/102-rockells_farm_22_07_08.html
Pulling out pasty after pasty doesnt fill much of you with glee and some would rather work for their fish.
But is a shoal of roach any different to a shoal of carp?

Neilio

I have been thinking bout this recently.

A shoal of natural carp, in a natural lake, that arent stunted, have natural food sources, and dont HAVE to eat anglers bait are much the same as a shoal of Roach.

On my visits to the places I would call puddles, I havent caught anything bar Carp, so I doubt that there are many shoals of Roach in them.

I regularly fish a lake thats fed by the Thames. Its a big place, 40lb carp in there they say, but I love the fact that you "dont know whats coming next".

Its harder fishing, but more rewarding than catching fish that get caught twenty times a month IMHO.

I will and do fish carp pools with the match club that I fish with. I prefer natural venues with less stock in but a lot of the club love building the weight up with carp. If I do not like it I can always vote with my feet, however I stick with it and have had some success as fishing with the club is far better than fishing by myself in my opinion. So if I want to fish with them it is on commercials at least for the summer months, the club tends to go to the river when the boat traffic dies down in the autumn. This year due to work and family commitments my match fishing has been limited having only fished a few. Things are looking up for the autumn and I cannot wait to get on the river. Neilio in answer to your question yes I think it is fishing, although I prefer the river I can see the skill in lining the fish up and building a weight even on commercials.

Hi Neillo, try the Suffolk Water Park. Whilst it is a commercial fishery it isn't stocked to silly levels like most of them. You have to work for your fish and the carp, tench, roach and skimmers are all putting on weight.

Fishing Pellet 1m out on the deck is the same as whip fishing on a canal for gudgeon the only difference is the size of the fish hence bigger weights. These days everything is about weights you are a better angler if you can catch 300lb+ which is total crap, some of these so called awsome commercial anglers never fish more than 5m. And all they fish is the one method all the time. True match fishing to me is working hard 3 or 4 lines and close matches. be it on a canal, river or stillwater. Some of the commericals I have visited over the years there are only 2 or 3 pegs which produce the real big weights anyway.

SPOT ON! ozzie
If it was left to some of them, everything but pellet would be banned so they didnt have to think about anything when they went on a match!
just fish at 5mtrs or the favoured "up in the water" (look at me i must be great if i can do that!) mentality!

Im not knocking the anglers who have mastered margin fishing and made a name for themselves by only doing this. To me match fishing is not a 10 peg knock up on a 50 peg pool and catching 300lb plus and then giving the big one by saying I must be better than you because ive had a 300lb weight. Guess what in my eyes a 10 peg knock up is just the same as a pleasure session. Heavily stocked commericals with only 10 anglers (50 peg pool) feel no pressure at all you try catching that kind of weight when all pegs are in. Back in the old days when big weights come from Ireland Denmark and Cyprus (the first for big carp catches) the matches was big and I feel they was more creditable I know you still at to draw and fish positive (heavy line, to hand etc). Them days just feel more real in the sense that if you drawed a bad section you would still work your arse off and feel like you had a chance if some fish turned up. I truely believe in 20 years time we will be doing the same as the Japs fishing 1 meter poles with 30+ elastic for F1'S, we will all be fishing 1 meter apart and catching 150lb+ doing the same thing week in and week out and the stocking levels will be 150,000 fish in a 50 peg pool just 0.1acre in size so your never far from fish. The sad thing about this is I am only 27.

I'm living in Japan but havent seen that type of set up. They don't seem to use elasticated poles here. But a whip for the type of fishing you are refering to. They call the fish Herra Buna and its like an F1. They also use two hooks and fish paste at different depths...........Also they don't feed.
Its a little strange.
