I would be inclined to use the No5 and fish something like 0.12 mainline to a 0.10 hooklength and Mustad Canal Seed hook. Use a slim float about 4x10 with a decent bristle and expect to catch in the top two feet on red maggot with caster feed at 6m.
If the fish really start boiling, try tying up 18" of 0.12 to a size 18 hook with just one or two No8s 3" from the hook and no float. Hold the line tight and wait for the fish to pull the elastic out. You often get the bigger roach and rudd that way.
Ideally, I would look to fish as far out as I can throw half a dozen casters. That will encourage you to feed very regularly, whereas if you are using the catty, you will not feed so frequently.

Perhaps you could give Andy Browne a call at Avon Angling, he used to be a top flight match angler and probably knows the venue. He is on: 01425 461038

Morning,

Cracking days fishing, started very strong, bites slowed after an hour then totally manic for the last 40 mins, I have to say I was shattered by the end of it, fished out using a top 4 mainline was 0.11 with a .08 trace and preston PR30 #20 hook, this was more than adaquate and I managed to land a 3ld carp half way through.

I managed 96 fish and my mate go 101 so lost but so close and such a laugh.

Thanks for the tips on this, made a big difference.

Paul.
