Anyone know what the 4 x 14 refers to on a float ?
I know it's the weight & 4 x 12 is heavier than a 4 x 14 etc, but unlike the other methods of describing floats, i.e stating the shot required (4BB or 3AA etc) or the weight in grams (i.e. 0.4g / 1.5g etc) I can't work out what the 4 or 14 relates to on a 4 x 14 etc.

It's not effecting my sleeping pattern or anything... just got me pondering.

4x 14 refers to styles
so 4 number 14 styles would cock the float correctly.
split it up into smaller shots and you have an uncle named bob

Yer've got gotcha 'wires' crossed there Bingo!...4X14 is HEAVIER float capacity than 4X12

For our recent 'wassell' match, I made mine and bbq's rigs up at home, 5 for her and 2 for me. When we set about fishing they sank , I put 4 12's styles on, I ended up tasking 2 off to get a pimple on the water, it really brasses me off when the shotting guide on the float is so far out. bbq didnt know how to take the styles off, so she couldnt use those rigs til I went round and showed her how to do it

P.s. I agree about the inaccuracy of the stated float capacity being annoying.

of course then we can move on to floats marked up in grms .05 grms etc etc but the link bingo has put up will sort all that.always shot up it a recipiticle with a wide top (Bucket )water tension can stop float form going under when tension is tight....

Ian, try this calculator out,, it is very accurate and will give you the equivellent weight in grams
