Another reason not to go to hallcroft as a first timer, for £20 i would expect moat and bridge to contain some fish

hahaha... they do take some catching !
One thing about Hallcroft you know you're going in to the 'lions den'... David against Goliath & all that... bit like taking on the old fairground boxer, you're paying for the privilege to get battered.... but one day I might just get a good left hook in (b'bum) !!

I know what you mean ian i stopped going because i could only fish there about twice a month and the regulars who are good anglers fish there every day. Also a few of the anglers jamie mason included have started going to little john lakes and else were because the sport is so poor after the floods last year when lots of fish were lost into the river. I saw in the angling times that the owner had not restocked to previous levels so that the likes of jamie wouldn't win every time in other words the match is won or lost at the draw, if you have the shoal of carp in front of you you will catch but a lot of pegs will be devoid of the carp and even if you are jamie mason if they arn't there you can't catch them.

Funnily enough I fished an open on Saturday on Moat lake & if I'd caught every carp cruising in my swim I'd have needed 2-3 keep nets, as it was they weren't having it.
I heard the winner had 90lb on an end peg & there were a couple of 70lb's but on the bank I was on everyone stuggled & 20-25lb nets were average except for Jamie Masson who had 60lb +
I was probably the happiest on my side of the lake because I'd beaten a couple of good anglers & was very close to a few others.... other than JM, but he is in a different league ! Having said that I do like a challenge !!!

Don't know about that Matthew, I just turned up & this Saturday it was on the Moat. I fished a few others over the past few months & they were on Bridge lake. I think they decide on the day which lake to fish
