Default where are all the roach

i have reicently been fishing the coventry canel and caught nothing but perch and skimmers. there have been loads of roach on the surface but even in the evening when its cooler the roach just arnt biting. can anyone recommend a good method for catching roach on the canel? i thought they might not be biting due to the breading season.

A large rope and a Cormarant should do the trick

It could be down to spawning, its that time of the year although the silvers are normally at it before the carp and the carp have just started so I would have thought that was over and done with.

Have you tried fishing the punch

It's not the best time of year to target canal roach they can disappear for a month or 2 late spring and early summer, if you know that the canal holds them go back late july and try again.

It is a very funny breeding deason this year. From what I can gather with the fish in our pools, roach and bream canme into condition and were close to spawning then the weather went cold and put them off. What happens then is that the fish will reabsorb the eggs into their system and may start to develop the next lot of eggs. So this year we may get a later spawnng from these species. It could be that the roach in your canal are just spawning or are just about to spawn. Give them a week or two. I have just spawned some rudd for the fish farm, which usually spawn up to 4 weeks later than roach and bream. A late roach and bream spawning (i.e if they spawn now) is likely to produce a good year for hybrids beause of the situation with the weather.

Hope that makes a bit of sense - I do tend to waffle a bit! Regards, Phil.
