Ollie, there is no easy way to obtaining sponsorship, it is not like applying for a grant. Sponsorship is earned by first off winning matches and framing on a regular basis, sponsors will then as often as not come to you. It is unlikely to be anything more than a bit of free bait, or tackle at cost. From time to time you might just see a new company on the market looking for candidates, so keep a CV of you angling achievements so you can present them should the need arise.
Think of sponsorship as to what you can offer to any company or tackle dealer, not what you can get out of them.
There are very few anglers who earn a living via sponsorship in short continue to enjoy your fishing get your name in the angling publications via the frame on open matches amnd you might be lucky.

Brian is right, the only thing I can add is that you have to be fishing the right matches, you can win as many matches as you like but if they are not published in the angling press then no one outside of those matches will ever hear about it.
You have fair more chance of sponsorship through a team than any individual deal.

You will need to impress a potential sponsor, both with your actions and the way you present yourself.
Before you try to contact anyone, PM me and I'll check your CV for spelling, grammar and presentation.
For instance, you called Brian Brain, an easy mistake to make, but not the sort of thing to impress a businessman!

sponsorship is very hard to get in anything,i used to compete in car audio competitions, was uk pro champion and travelled accross europe competing,as with all passtimes it was very expensive.
i only know of a few who had full sponsorship the best i ever managed was amplifiers at cost price, and believe me thats not to be sniffed at most items at or around main distributor level are approximatly 1/3 of retail,so there are good discounts even on sponsorship at cost basis.
like has been said, fishing the right matches and getting noticed is the all important factor.and dont let yourself be sold short if you are successfull and have a prospective sponsor coming for you.
this may involve more or less turning down a few sponsors, lets face it,successfull anglers have put a lot of hard work, dedication time and money into the skills they have, its worth much more than a few bags of pellets or groundbait.
