It is apparent that one or two well known names in the angling world are available for tuition at a fee.
On a variation of that theme, who would consider it cheating or in bad taste if I were to offer a local venue expert money to coach me during several matches, they could do no more than sit behind me & give me advice.
I still doubt very much that I would be 'in the money' but it would no doubt give my current level of ability a much needed boost (I can't believe how competitive I'm getting in my old age !).

Many venues have anglers only/no walkers policies etc,as long as they dont leave your area / peg for the entire match,i can't see a prob.

funnily enough.....had one of those 'silly day dreams' the other day about winning the lottery and what to do with my time....and thought i could pay a venue spiv prior to each clubbie to tune me in to the venue..........then i thought whats the point still need to draw well then suss it out during the match. most of my match wins come from being on the right method from the off and it working i.e plan a.

Good reply thanks CT - but I'm a bit of an oddbod in that if I fish against people more or less the same ability as me & do well, I don't pat myself on the back... I tell myself that it wasn't a proper challenge - hence I now plan to go way out of my depth & fish the opens.
The first part of my plan will go like clockwork as I expect to finish in the bottom few most of the time !, but I'm happiest when 'the only way is up' & therefore hope battle-on & claw my way towards mid table, hopefully more & more often. To do that I need to fish more but I don't get the time to do that. The alternative me thinks, is if I can't increase the quantity of time I fish then increase the quality of my fishing - hence the idea of the tuition.
As you say, you still need a good draw and again the idea of the tuition is if I got a good draw I would hopefully be able to make the best of it - which would not necessarily be the case at the moment................

This answer is without the benefit of checking the information beforehand!
I thought it was against NFA rules to be coached while you are competing in a match. Not that that stops it happening, the role of bank runners could be viewed as coaching and I have seen several instances of anglers getting much more practical help while they fish a match as well.

From a personal point of view, I would not object if someone was fishing a match I was fishing and they had a coach sat with them. I know that most anglers in that scenario would not actually be able to fish in the way the coach wanted them to and some would fight against fishing in the way someone else suggested.

On the more specific point of you moving on, Ian, perhaps you should try a more targeted approach to your own sessions. Go to venues which are dominated by a method you are unfamiliar with and see if you can make it work in practise.
Once you have been catching fish on that method, then try entering a match and see if you can turn up 'blind' to new venues and compete.
How would that make you feel, if you were turning heads from your first visit to a venue?

is it really any different to ringing a friend.....everyone gets to a peg these days and rings someone they know fished it before......and asks questions ..same thing to me..phones are banned in nationals if i recall..the only way to learn is to get amongst better anglers
