Roy Quayle’s Cup Final Day Hat Trick

1st Roy Quayle (Maver JGG) Peg24 39lb 10oz Pole/corn/pellet

2nd Pete Palmer (Dog Lane ) Peg2 29lb 15oz Pole/paste/pellet

3rd Alan Hancox (Team Lollipop) Peg 20 29lb 5oz Pole/Pellet

It was FA Cup Final day but this didn’t stop Roy Quayle from turning out to score his third win in a row at Dog Lane this week. Roy drew peg 24 on the Far Side Bank and quickly put together a run of F1 carp over his pole lines. Fishing at 13m and a left and right swim at 3m Roy rotated between them taking a fish from each.

Second place went to Pete Palmer of Dog Lane Fishery who fished paste over wetted micros on peg 2 at 5m to weigh in 29lb 15oz of carp to 4lb.

Knocked into third place by 10oz was Alan Hancox of Team Lollipop fishing on peg 20 who weighed in 20lb of carp and 9lb of silvers for 29lb 5oz

Special mention should go to Bob Palmer (Dog Lane) who landed the heaviest recorded fish from the lake a 10lb 6oz ‘Ghostie’ caught on a single 6mm pellet over micros on peg4. He went on to weigh in 15lb 15oz and came in 5th place just 4lb behind younger brother Josh.

The draw for next weeks match will be at the Kings Head Napton 9am and fishing from 10:30am to 3:30pm.

Middle Lake (10 pegs)

1st Ray Gregory (Castle AC) Peg4 21lb 15oz Pole/pellet

2nd Pete Palmer (Dog Lane ) Peg2 21lb 8˝oz Pole/corn/pellet
3rd Roy Quayle (Maver JGG) Peg 48 18lb 4oz Splasher/Pellet
The day was sunny with overcast periods and the fish had other things on their minds this week as the water temperature had triggered them into spawning. Most of the fish caught were under 2lb and mostly timid takers with floats needing to be dotted down to spot the bites.
It was the turn of venue stalwart Ray Gregory (Castle AC) who waited patiently to take the crown for first place from peg 4 fishing pellet over groundbait. Ray’s fish eventually turned up at his peg at 2pm and decided to feed for the last part of the match. Ray caught on 6mm expander pellet over groundbait taking examples to 4lb and weighing in 21lb 15oz.
Second place went to Pete Palmer of Dog Lane Fishery who fished pellet and corn over wetted micros and dead red maggot on peg 8 at 10m to weigh in 21lb 8˝oz of carp to 2lb. This was despite having jumped in, with an hour to go, to grab his pole which had been ripped out of it’s rests as Pete had got up to put on a fleece. Needless to say he got no points for grace and some wry comments but did land the fish responsible. Not a recommended action to take but reason seems to fly out the window when you see a grand pole disappearing into the depths. Don’t do it!
Third place was taken by Roy Quayle on peg 48 with 18lb 4oz of splasher caught carp all taken in the last 40 minutes. Needless to say he will be back next week to attempt to regain his crown.

The draw for next weeks match will be at the Kings Head Napton 9am and fishing from 10:30am to 3:30pm.

Just to elaborate for you...it get's better.

I had got up to quickly put a fleece on and thought just pop pole in the rests and I'll be quick enough to respond.....big mistake.

Had just got Bib n brace straps off and fleece on and zipping up, when I noticed out the corner of my eye something move. Quickly pulled Bib up but not straps, made running grab for the pole, missed and was heading head first into keepnet. So bunny hopped over the keepnet and into the water stopping just at mid chest, grabbed the pole, felt everything take on water and felt stones heavier. Struggled to bank, coz by this time Bib n brace were round the ankles and scrambled out. Landed fish...then......oh my God.... the realisation sank in that in fleece was camera, in Bib was phone and headset, in back pocket was wallet.

Quickly got everything out and pulled batteries from phone and camera...too late for camera that's bit the dust. Number two son, was on next peg looking both agast and worried. Fortunately he did not take piccy but rang his mum to tell her. I then spoke to her and she lovingly brought me a fresh set of clothes I lost over half an hour and still caught but as you see was pipped by only ounces.

Rest of the blokes started moaning that wading wasn't allowed and that that's not the sought of ballin in, was that a full pike...etc etc

Roy Quayle Gets His Mojo Back. Or how one fish was all it needed.

1st Roy Quayle (Maver JGG) Peg7 31lb 10oz Pellet Splasher/pellet

2nd Martin Paynter (Dog Lane ) Peg3 28lb 13oz Pellet Waggler/pellet

3rd Alan Hancox (Team Lollipop) Peg 22 27lb 6oz Pole/Pellet shallow.

It was a hot sunny day and Roy Quayle found his Mojo and regained his crown as King of the Lake by switching to the pellet splasher earlier in the match this week.

Roy fished from peg 7 on the dam wall and drew the fish in to the sound of his splasher and pellet combo. Taking fish to 4lb he kept just one fish ahead of Martin Paynter on peg 3 and recorded 31lb 10oz for first place.

Second place went to Martin Paynter of Dog Lane Fishery who also fished up in the water off peg 3. Using similar tactics Martin finished with 28lb 13oz of carp and one Tench.

Knocked into third place by one fish was Alan Hancox of Team Lollipop fishing at 14m on peg 22 who weighed in 27lb 6oz of carp caught shallow on pellet.

Vince Atkinson of Rugby Tackle on peg 50 who was at one point leading the field ended with 25lb 9oz of carp.

The draw for next weeks match will be at the Kings Head Napton 9am and fishing from 10:30am to 3:30pm.

Middle Lake (10 pegs)

1st Tony Sandelance (Coventry) Peg3 16lb 14oz Maggot/silvers

2nd Martin Paynter (Dog Lane ) Peg5 12lb 2oz Pellet Waggler/pellet
3rd Roy Quayle (Maver JGG) Peg7 11lb 14oz Pellet Splasher/pellet

It was a very hot sunny day and the pressure was up and so were the carp, however they were very reluctant to take a bait this week. The fish that were obliging were the lakes’ silvers but only if you had maggot or caster.

The angler that came prepared for the day was Tony Sandelance of Coventry who fished from peg 3 on the dam wall. Tony fished red maggot on his hook and was rewarded with a busy days fishing catching Gudgeon, Roach and small Perch to put an impressive 16lb 14oz of them on the scales.

Second place went to Martin Paynter of Dog Lane Fishery who fished up in the water off peg 5 hoping to encourage the carp to feed on his pellet waggler. The fish infrequently obliged with only the lakes smaller fish taking the bait. He finished the match with 12lb 2oz and an early sunburn!

Knocked into third place by one fish was last weeks winner Roy Quayle who put faith in his splasher and caught carp caught shallow on pellet at peg 7 for 11lb 14oz.

The draw for next weeks match will be on the bank at 3pm and fishing from 4pm to 9pm.

Middle Lake (10 pegs)

1st Tony Sandelance (Coventry) Peg37 45lb 13oz Maggot & Caster/Silvers

2nd Martin Paynter (Dog Lane ) Peg46 39lb 11oz Pellet Waggler/Pellet/Carp

3rd Pete Palmer (Dog Lane) Peg44 36lb 13oz Pellet/Paste/ Carp, Bream

Torrential rain did not put off the anglers attending this weeks later starting match at Dog Lane, nor did it put the fish off from feeding.

Tony Sandelance of Coventry who fished maggot and caster from peg 37 at the narrow end of the lake found himself busy from the off. Tony fished red maggot on his hook and was catching Gudgeon, Roach and Perch and Skimmers and one Tench to put an even more impressive 45lb 13oz of them on the scales, than last week.

Second place went to Martin Paynter of Dog Lane Fishery who fished up in the water off peg 46 with a pellet waggler and pellet. Martin also caught on his pole line when the cruising fish moved off the waggler line. Alternating between the two lines he weighed in 39lb 11oz of carp and skimmers

This week it was Pete Palmer’s turn to be knocked into third place by one fish by Martin Paynter. Sticking to the pole, literally, Pete caught Carp and Bream on pellet and paste to finish with 36lb 13oz.

The draw for next weeks match will be a SILVER ONLY match and will be fished from 10:30am to 3:30pm Draw at 9am. Please book on for more details.

July 21st

Middle Lake 10 pegs

1st Steve Bull (Northampton) Peg48 50lb 14˝oz Method/Pole/carp/Bream/Pellet

2nd Martin Paynter (Dog Lane Fishery) Peg53 39lb 2oz Pole/carp/Bream/ Paste/worm/caster.

3rd Pete Palmer (Dog Lane Fishery) Peg54 34lb 2˝oz Pole/carp/Bream/ paste/worm/caster

It was almost a wash out at Dog Lane this week, the heavy rainfall caused all the fisheries’ lakes to burst their banks on Friday and it was touch and go as to whether the venue would be fishable.
Fortunately the levels subsided and the water returned within the banks. Heavily coloured and with water still pouring through the match was started on time and those able to get through or round flooded roads were rewarded with bites first cast.

One such angler was Steve Bull from Northampton who was straight into carp on the method feeder from peg 48. Switching to the pole later in the match Steve pulled away from the rest of the field helped by the capture of a double figure beast, no doubt washed in from the Specci Lake, and finished with a winning weight of 50lb 14˝oz.

Second place went to Martin Paynter of Dog lane who quickly put the method feeder to one side and settled on two pole lines to take Carp and Bream to 5lb on paste, worm or caster. Martin finally weighed in 39lb 2oz.

Third place and one peg and one fish away from Martin was Match organiser Pete Palmer on peg 54. Who, like Martin, fished two lines on the pole at 13m and 3m and caught on caster and worm and paste close in for a weight of 34lb 2˝oz.

Backup weights were all above 20lb. Lets hope next week is not quite so wet.

The draw for next weeks match will be at the Kings Head Napton 9am and fishing from 10:30am to 3:30pm.

July 28th

Middle Lake 13 pegs

1st Vince Atkinson (Rugby Tackle) Peg24 45lb 15oz Pole/Paste/Carp

2nd Andy Beaumont (Rugby) Peg7 32lb 2oz Pole/Pellet/Paste/Carp

3rd Tony Sandelance (Coventry) Peg5 25lb 9oz Pole/Caster & Worm/ Silvers

4th Josh Palmer (Dog Lane) Peg3 24lb 15oz Pole/Paste/Carp

After last weeks near wash out it was a pleasure to sit through a match in shirt sleeves instead of sowesters and waterproofs. The match got off to a quick start for two anglers and a frustrating one for others, peg7’s Andy Beaumont was into carp with his first put in and moments later peg24’s Vince Atkinson followed suit.

The rest of the field sat and watched it happen until spells in the crosswinds gave them a chance to get their presentation right and the fish then obliged. It was certainly a day for battling with the changing wind and tow and those that persevered with altering their rigs were rewarded with bites.

First spot this week went to Vince Atkinson (Rugby Tackle) who caught from the off on end-peg number 24 using paste at 8m. Weighing in 45lb 15oz of carp.

Second place was Andy Beaumont on the dam wall peg 7 who put together a net of pasties and the odd better specimen for 32lb 2oz

Third place and neighbour was venue regular Tony Sandelance on peg 5 who set his sights on silvers and was busy all match catching fish to 10z and weighed in 25lb 9oz.

Fourth best weight was also from the dam wall and came from 14 year old Josh Palmer who was one fish out of the frame on peg 3. Josh fished paste at 11m and waited nearly 3hrs before his first carp, after which he started to give Tony cause for concern and unfortunately some lost fish kept him from ‘picking up’. Nevertheless, he weighed in a creditable 24lb 15oz.

The draw for next weeks match will be at the Kings Head Napton 9am and fishing from 10:30am to 3:30pm.
