Default Dog Lane Saturday Opens...a new beginning

Match Report
Dog Lane Fishery
Middle Lake
Napton Warwickshire

August 26th

Middle Lake 10 pegs

1st Chris Horsley (Fox Milton Keynes) Peg54 24lb 15˝oz Pole/Bream/Small Carp/ChopWorm

2nd Martin Paynter (Dog Lane Fishery) Peg52 23lb 4˝ Pole/Bream/Roach/Caster & Maggot

3rd Wayne Dixon (Daventry) Peg50 12lb 4oz Pole/Bream/Roach

Chris Horsley took first place from peg 54 one of his favourite pegs this week, with 24lb 15˝oz of Bream and small carp taken on chopped worm and caster. Chris sneaked the win from Martin Paynter, on the next peg with a last minute bream, who up to that point was clearly ahead. Both anglers had used similar tactics, however, Martin’s peg responded with more roach. Wayne Dixon on peg50 improved on his last appearance going from last place to 3rd after realising he had been fishing too far out for the majority of the match. Just goes to show the fine line between fishing and catching.

The draw for next weeks match will be at the Kings Head Napton 9am and fishing from 10:30am to 3:30pm.

Not too bad a result considering that:

We had a carp kill earlier in the month

that the rain hammered down in the early hours of the morning

the water colour had dropped out as less carp to disturb the bottom.

And I had no worms or casters...doh!

The next day saw two clubs fish and best weights were low double figures, but one club did hamper itself by making it a rod and line event, and the majority went with a feeder...had any of them properly fished the waggler shallow or slider they would have been better off.

Watched one guy use a loaded waggler in 9ft of water and fish dead depth, and wonder why his float didn't cock right and then after a minute go under..he made no effort to come up in the water and connect with the upper to mid water roach and rudd...guess it takes allsorts to go fishing and only a few who can go catching.

As I attended the Intersite match at Barston yesterday, I don't have the full SP as to what got caught from where or by whom as yet. However, I believe the winning weight was over 30lb and made up mostly of Bream....nice. Will post more later when I've been up to take a walk round and see how the clubbies are doing today.

Match Report
Dog Lane Fishery
Middle Lake
Napton Warwickshire

September 9th

Middle Lake 10 pegs

1st Dennis Lutwyche (Hawkesbury Fishery) Peg27 33lb 10½oz Pole/Bream/Method/Small Carp/Corn and Maggot

2nd Martin Paynter (Dog Lane Fishery) Peg17 30lb 5½oz Pole/Bream/Roach/Perch/Chop Worm & Maggot

3rd George Cairnes (Hawkesbury Fishery) Peg18 27lb 13½oz Pole/Bream/Carp

For the first hour of the match Dennis Lutwyche caught small carp on the method, but kept feeding his inside line with corn and pellet. Switching to the inside line Dennis got amongst some of Dog Lanes Bream and steadily and quietly put together a winning 33lb 10½oz bag from end peg 27.

Dog Lane regular, Martin Paynter, drew peg 17 amongst the rushes and fed chop worm at 7m. The fish responded almost immediately and several bream and roach were soon added to his net, at the end of the match Martin found himself one Bream short of a win. (Didn't this happen last time?) The scales showed 30lb 5½oz for second place.

Third spot this week went to first timer George Kurns who fished the next peg 18 and put a bag of mainly F1s on the scales for 27lb 13½oz.

The draw for next weeks match will be at the Kings Head Napton 9am and fishing from 10:30am to 3:30pm.

September 16th

Middle Lake 10 pegs

1st Wayne Nixon (Daventry) Peg5 18lb 4oz Method/Bream/Small Carp

2nd Alan Walton (Whitley AC) Peg4 12lb 8oz Method/Pole/Bream/Small Carp

3rd Ian Toplis (Got Baits Derby) Peg10 11lb 11½oz Pole/Bream/Carp

Wayne Nixon (Daventry) finally broke his 12lb barrier at Dog Lane this week when he drew Dam Wall peg5 and opted to fish the in-line method feeder. Wayne had several good spells throughout the five hour match when the wind picked up and the light dropped enough to encourage the bream to feed. The fish took corn and red maggot and weighed in at 18lb 4oz.

Next peg first timer Alan Walton (Whitley AC) alternated between the method and pole, managing to winkle out the reluctant fish to a final second place weight of 12lb 8oz

In third place was Ian Toplis (Got Baits Derby) on peg 10 who traveled down from Derby to fish this weeks open. Ian found the company more hospitable than the fish, but still managed to catch enough for third place. En-route to the venue Ian was followed by a lost Nottingham angler looking for a canal match near Northampton! Needless to say Jim WhereAmI stayed and fished with us and will return next week if he spots Ian's Mondeo on the M1.

No catch Pic this week as Wayne was so beside himself and convinced he'd been beaten that he put his weighed fish back!

The draw for next weeks match will be at the Kings Head Napton 9am and fishing from 10:30am to 3:30pm.

September 23rd

Middle Lake 10 pegs

1st John Webb (RugbyTackle) Peg9 48lb 12oz Pole/Corn/ Bream/Small Carp

2nd Martin Paynter (Dog Lane Fishery) Peg7 47lb 5oz Pole/Worm & Caster/Bream/Silvers

3rd Pete Palmer (Dog Lane Fishery) Peg3 35lb 3oz Pole/paste/ Bream/ Carp.

The warm winds raised the water temperature this week and in addition created a gentle chop to the surface of the lake, all of which combined to make today's match one to turn out for.

John Webb caught well from the off close in on his 6m line, using sweetcorn over groundbait. His winning weight of 48lb 12oz came from peg9 on the dam wall and consisted of a dozen Bream, Carp and his first Tench off the water.

Second place fell to Martin Paynter, who seems to have found this a favourite position. Martin fished peg7, worm and caster over pellet, and put together a net of silvers and big bream to 38lb+ and 9lb+ of small carp.

Third place went to Pete Palmer on peg3 who caught at 6m and 3m using soft paste and pellet for 35lb 3oz of Bream and carp.

The draw for next weeks match will be at the Middle Lake Car Park Napton 9am and fishing from 10:30am to 3:30pm.

Match Report

Middle Lake

October 1st

Middle Lake 10 pegs

1st Andy Beaumont (Rugby) Peg3 28lb 15oz Pole/Expander Pellet/ Bream/Carp

2nd Martin Paynter (Dog Lane Fishery) Peg17 27lb 4oz Pole/Worm & Caster/Bream/Silvers

3rd Simon Potter (Rugby) Peg15 19lb 2oz Pole/Corn & Maggot/ Mixed Bag

It was a Fowl Weather Day at Dog Lane this week, with the lake carrying an extra foot of water, and more added to it just after the mid-day deluge most anglers had to re-adjust their rigs to compensate.

Andy Beaumont ventured out to peg 3 and was soon into a run of carp on expander pellet fished at 4 and 8m. Andy's run lasted about 2hrs after which he caught sporadically to the end of the match to weigh in a winning 28lb 15oz.

Second place and a regular spot for Martin Paynter who fished peg17 on the far side bank catching a nice bag of Bream and silvers for 27lb 4oz.

Third was Simon Potter on peg 15 with 19lb 2oz of mixed silvers and odd carp.

The rest of the field put low double figures on the scales with the lowest at 13lb, and only one pole broken on the day by John Webb who must have had more breaks than Steve Davies.

The draw for next weeks match will be SUNDAY at the Middle Lake Car Park Napton 9am and fishing from 10:30am to 4:30pm.

Match Report

Middle Lake
Napton Warwickshire

October 8th

Middle Lake 10 pegs

1st Pete Palmer (Dog Lane Fishery) Peg6 29lb 9oz Feeder/Bread & Caster/Bream

2nd Andy Judd (Daventry) Peg2 17lb 11oz Feeder/corn & Maggot/Carp & Bream

3rd John Webb (Rugby Tackle) Peg3 14lb 15oz Pole/Corn & Maggot/ Carp & Bream

The rain stayed away this week at Dog Lane but the wind was still going strong so most anglers went for a feeder approach, daring only to fish their poles when it subsided which was not often. The fish were definitely in the pegs and a steady bait presentation was vital to obtain a bite.

Dog Lanes Pete Palmer took peg six to task with the pole finding only small roach and skimmers obliging on single and double caster. A change to the feeder over the pole line, charged with bread and casters and fishing the same on the hook, produced the presentation the bigger fish were looking for. First cast was a Bream of 5lb and several others followed over the remaining hour of the match to put a final winning weight of 29lb 9oz on the scales.

Second place was Daventry based chef Andy Judd who started off well in the first hour of the match catching small carp on the feeder. Switching to the pole later accounted for a few more and then Andy moved over to the feeder once again and like Pete cast onto his pole line and found two good Bream to push his final weight to 17lb 11oz.

Third place went to John Webb (Rugby Tackle) on peg3 who had his work cut out this week to stay ahead of his young lad Charlie (10yrs) who for the first two hours was giving everyone a lesson in fishing close in. Despite the distraction John managed to just stay ahead and weighed in 14lb 15oz.

A few more words about young Charlie Webb; This young man showed experienced matchmen how keeping things simple and doing what you have most confidence pays off. Charlie fished corn and maggot at 4m and caught two Tench to 4lb, a Chub of 1lb and Perch to 1lb 8oz for a combined weight of 11lb 8oz. Well done young man and an increase in pocket money looks on the cards to keep you in bait!

The draw for next weeks match will be SATURDAY at the Kings Head Pub Napton 9am and fishing from 10:30am to 4:30pm.

Match Report
Dog Lane Fishery
Middle Lake
Napton Warwickshire

October 14th

Middle Lake 10 pegs

1st Jon Bromley (Jets MG) Peg17 42lb 8½oz Feeder/Worm & Caster/Carp & Bream

2nd Vince Atkinson (Rugby Tackle) Peg20 40lb11oz Pole/ Corn & Expander/ Carp & Bream

3rd John Webb (Rugby Tackle) Peg19 21lb 14oz Pole & Feeder/Corn/ Carp & Bream

The day began with a thick blanket of fog and a moderate breeze which gradually lifted through the match. First into a run of fish was Vince Atkinson on Peg 20 who found small carp obliging on his inside line. For the first two hours it seemed as though the match was going all his way but four pegs down the bank at peg 17 Jon Bromley of Jets MG had been working on his feeder line which was now producing a run of carp to worm and caster. John Webb of Rugby Tackle on peg 19 was also catching but at half the rate of his two neighbours. The outcome of this three peg battle went like this:-

First place finally went to Jon Bromley of Jets MG who weighed in a net of 42lb 8½oz of which 27lb 4½oz was carp to 7lb.

Second Place was Vince Atkinson of Rugby Tackle with 40lb 11oz with a near 50/50 split of carp and silvers.

In Third place John Webb of Rugby Tackle with 21lb 14oz of carp and bream.

Making a last hour attempt to frame Jason Redgrave also of Rugby Tackle chased the pack from peg 7 and weighed in 20lb 8oz, the follow up weights were in the low doubles. The appearance of pound plus Perch in this and recent matches has been giving a boost to those that target the silvers. It won't be long before the first two pound plus fish puts in an appearance; during pleasure sessions fish to near 3lb have been caught on worm or caster.

The draw for next weeks match will be SATURDAY at the Kings Head Pub Napton 9am and fishing from 10:30am to 4:30pm.
