Default Sue Ryder Care Charity Match at Decoy Lakes

On a bright, but often breezy day, 31 anglers took part in a charity match to raise funds for the Sue Ryder Care Hospice at Thorpe Hall in Peterborough.
Spread over Willows and 6-Islands lakes at the Decoy Complex a mystery pairs competition was held. Post individual draws, fishery owner Diane drew pairs made up of one from each lake with no-one knowing the partners until the weigh in.

With plenty of space on both lakes they didn't fail to produce. On Willows Kevin Wilmot (Total Corase Fishing) on peg 15 led the way with an F1 first put in followed slowly by a few of its shoal mates. steadily fishing shallow with caster Kevin amassed the biggest weight on the lake with 102-6. Closely followed by Ian Halliwell on peg 33 with 99-8 and Paul Smith on peg 25 with 95-8.

6-Islands was a different story with run away winner Barry Mason(Ringers Baits) a clear 76lb in front of second. Barry fished long up the far bank with pellet before plundering the margins either side with meat on peg 18 to accumulate 176-4 of carp. Second place being taken by Colin Varney with a level 100lb from peg 13. Third on the lake was Smudge smith with 92-8 from peg 24.

At the weigh in all calculations were made and with an average weight of 62lb per angler it had been a good days fishing. The pairs contest being decided on weight who would be the lucky and who wouldn't. Top pair were Barry Mason and Ian Halliwell (275-12). With Barry having enough to win the contest on his own, but Ian also catching nearly a ton they were well clear of second placed pairing Kevin Wilmot and Rob Goodson who amassed 159-14 between them. To finish off the top three were Smudge Smith and Lee Kendall with 149-10.

Payouts extended to the 5/6 man sections with some goodie bags consisting of items from Ringers baits and accessories from Garbolino. All of which were very well received.

After the match a raffle took place with prizes donated by many sources. On the day a total on nearly £500 was raised for the charity, and with Perkins Engines to also contribute the total will be much higher.

The list to thanks is extensive Di and Pete at Decoy, Kevin Wilmot at Total Coarse Fishing, Phil Ringer, Darren Cox at Garbolino, Ken Wade, Drennan, Middy, Leeda, Steve Lockett, Zebco Sports, and of course all the anglers who made the effort to come along and support the charity!
