Broom open result - Talk Angling fishing chat and tackle advice

Hello all,

Broom Fisheries first open of the year was held today, and the prize money went to:

1st: Ewen Weed - 13lb 14ozs
2nd: John Bushfield - 9lb 10ozs
3rd: Jem Paveley - 8lb 8ozs

Although the weather here is definitely warmer, the fishing today was hampered by an unusually clear sky filled with some of the brightest sunshine we have seen for a long time. However, a good time was had by all and many of today's competitors will be back tomorrow for the first leg of the Broom Series 2007.

Ewen Weed, the winner pictured below, said his success was due to sticking with his Daiwa Matchwinner 11/13, coupled with a Daiwa 2508 TDR. Most of his fish (mainly carp) were caught with two red maggots, on a very short hook length.

The next Broom open will be on Saturday 12th May and there are still places available. For those of you who have never heard of us, we are at Annan - just 7 miles from Gretna Green and 15 minutes from the M6 at Carlisle. More details at www.broomfisheries.co.uk.
