Default Suffolk Water Park - 29th December

13 fished. The water temperature had risen over the last couple of days and we had two consecutively exceptionally warm nights. This combined with a strong south west to westerly wind that meant fishing was uncomfortable on the Causeway Bank causing a strong tow. That meant that the carp fed quite well for a lot of people. It seems to me from observation that if the water temperature is on the rise and there is a good tow on the water then the SWP fish go on a bit of a feed. That certainly happened yesterday. The water temp was only 6.5 C on the morning of the match but that meant it had gone up 2C in a couple of days.

1st. That man Darren Clarke, Dynamite Baits, again from peg 29 fishing a straight bomb with luncheon meat or sweetcorn on the hook. Darren weighed in 14 carp for 57lb 7oz.

I was pegged next to Aaron Coleman and Aaron, who had 2lb of roach in his net at the time and had been fishing the tip for carp for an hour and a half without a bite, said to me "Darren is doing something different to the rest of us" I said that "He certainly appeared to have the place sussed as he is winning from pegs all over the lake." Anyway it seems that Aaron sussed out exactly what Darren was doing as within minutes of our conversation Aaron's tip went round and it didn't stop for the rest of the match!

2nd Aaron Coleman, Gipping Valley AC, also fishing the straight bomb with meat went on to catch 50lb of carp in the 2 1/2 hours from 12.30 to the end of the match at 3pm including 5 in the last 45 minutes. It could be that the fish just turned up but I believe that Aaron worked out what was happening and made some adjustments. He fished in more or less the same place for those last 2 1/2hours as he had been for the previous biteless hour and a half. Well done for Aaron for thinking so well about your fishing and sussing out what to do.

3rd Richard Watson, Nisa Waveney, with 8 carp for 27lb 4oz fishing from one of the Golden Pegs, Peg 7. I didn't suss it out the way Aaron did and I had all my carp spread throughout the match.

4th Peter Binks, Walton on Naze from peg 4 with 25lb 8oz, fishing a straight lead with luncheon meat on the hook

5th Martin Budgen, Nisa Waveney, from peg 30 with 18lb 12oz. Martin also fished a straight bomb but with double sweetcorn on the hook.

6th Kevin Forster with 7lb 5oz from peg 8
