Suffolk Water Park - 12th January
Only 10 fished in the end and it was generally pretty hard going. The water temperature had been rising all week - until this morning! 8 or 9 degrees every day until today! When I got up the outside temperature was 3.8 C and that was the lowest it had been all night, no frost etc. By the time the car was packed it was 1 C and the car was frosted over!
Everyone had a carp or two to keep up in the interest and ensure that it would have been a big gamble to go for the roach. However in the end it may well have been enough to take third place.
The curse of the golden peg has struck again. Darren Clarke drew one of the golden pegs - Peg 5 and at one stage it looked as though he would win it with 5 fish to most people's 1 or 2. However John Dale had a golden hour and despite Darren having a late fish when no one else had caught for over an hour that golden hour of John's proved to be enough. The other golden peg was peg 3 where Zoli Lari had a couple of carp but realised that they wouldn't be enough and didn't weigh in.
1st place, from peg 29 John Dale, Nisa Waveney, with 8 fish for 25lb 1oz. John fished a straight lead with corn.
2nd place an unlucky Darren Clarke, Dynamite Baits, on peg 5 also with 8 fish but 3 were stockies with 19lb 3oz. Darren caught on a variety of hookbaits including 3 pieces of punched bread.
3rd place from peg 4 Peter Binks, Walton on Naze, with 10lb 2oz on luncheon meat
4th place from peg 6 Richard Watson, Nisa Waveney, with 7lb on luncheon meat
5th place from peg 30 Joe Lari, Unattached, with 6lb 9oz
6th Ray Darnell, Nisas Waveney, from peg 26 5lb 6oz on a method feeder
