milton my dear lad, frys is a large , soon to be closed chocolate factory in keynsham.it has 3 to 4 miles of the bristol avon running behind it,and the match group,is a dedicated band of anglers, who match fish, all year round. hope thats cleared that up.!!

Ah, as I hoped!

I worked at Frys for well over 10 years at the time the bypass was built and was a member of the fishing group for quite a few years and in those days - prior to the bream swim arriving, it was arguably the best stretch of the Bristol Avon with huge shoals of roach and dace falling to all types of bait including malt which was deadly!

I returned to Somerdale late last year for the first time since the late '60's. Absolute horror! The office block in which I worked could only be defined by a heap of old steps and grass. The canteen and all the auxiliary blocks behind the main factory had gone along with so much including the garage complex. Devastation! Cadbury's should be ashamed of themselves!

Fortunatley the sports unit built in my days and was used by the first team after its inaugeration - and my greatly beloved football pitch, was still there but internally was totally different - there was also a bar!

While there last year I was lucky enough to bump into Max Packer who was a member of the same football team when we won the div 2 and later went up to div 1 and even later up to the prem'. I also played league table tennis in that building, played team cricket and had many great times not only in the factories where I had a complete run of every nook and cranny but the grounds, all the buildings and new a great many people there.

I take it the dreaded cowdrink is still there, but hey, I miss the fishing but dont miss the walk across those fields on a wet winters morning!

I can tell you, those years were the best of my life and the total unit of Somerdale was more like a home to me - so to see it now was a terrible shock!

So my good, young man, you now know why I asked the question and why I say the response was what I hoped. Its good to see the Frys Match Group still surviving and I hope you guys keep up the good work. Oh, and I also lived in Keynsham when it was spelt - K E Y N S H A M - and had friends who lived a couple of doors from Horace Batchelor.

Ah, the infra-draw method.

Long live the aura of Somerdale!

Thanks for replying and my apologies if this seems long winded.
