Hi Mick
If you look to the left of where it says search the forums it should say "welcome Lynyl" followed by User CP. If you click on that and go to settings and options, then click on "edit options" you can set the Thread subscription default mode to whether or not you want to be automatically subscribed to threads. that will sort any new threads you answer on, as for any threads you either want to subscribe to or unsubscribe from look just above the thread and you will see "thread tools" which gives you that option for individual threads
