Sylen Match Report
The Plan was for Malc to be picking me up at 7:30 - 7:45 and we would then go to Dai's house and all travel up together!
I told my dad about 7:15 that Malc would more than likely be here about 8:00 lol but to my surprise 7:30 and there he was out side in the Little Green Roller Skate!
My Gear Loaded and off to Dai's just up the road unloaded the Roller Skate and loaded Malc, Dai and My own gear into Dai's car and we set off around 8:00.
After a lot of laughing in the car on the wait with a bit of banter going in the car we pulled into Sylen around 9:15 with Dai driving straight at Chris Carp to get the banter started and it lead on from there!
3 of the Fish4Wales Members were fed up of waiting a couple of extra min's because Nick was running slightly late he arrived a little shy of 10:00 and the draw was soon under way and I drew peg 16 with Brian on 17 and Nick on 14 so a good bit of banter to be had if not fish so I thought
Then a lot of chaos was soon started because some pegs had been moved ect ect im not going to go into detail so it was decided the match would go on but no points would be counted to the table's because of gaps in the pegging and pleasure anglers in between fishing floaters ect ect!
I finally arrived at my peg after the bloody marathon of a walk! Dai had lent me his trolley (Cheers again for that Dai) I was soon head off to see malc who kindly elasticated my Drag N Net for me with some vespe 22 I arrived back at my peg at around 10:50!
My peg had an island about 30m away and two rush beds either side of the platform!
Fishing times were 11 - 4. So I was not going to be ready for the all in but I had set my method feeder rod up the night before so on the all in I cast that out towards the island and flicked on the bait runner and started setting everything up!
I decided to fish one swim with just a top3 under my feet one at the full length of the Drag N Net (5.5m) I feed both these lines with 3 pots of 4 and 6mm pellet at the start!
I also plumped up a line at 8m this would be my bream line which I feed with 6 balls of grounbait at the start and left to settle down for half an hour! My groundbait was Swim Stim Green and Swim Stim Halibut mixed 50/50 with Brown Crumb!
I had about another 3 - 4 chucks on the feeder with no joy so I came in to the 5m line and tried paste and cat meat with no joy. So an hour into the match and a big DNW so I used my head and thought right bum to the Carp if they are not feeding I will fish for the Silver's and hope fully build up a weight of them!
The elastic in my silvers Kit was a 6 - 8 hollow with pulla bung just encase I hooked a carp: D I fished 6mm ringers expander’s over the ground bait and was soon pulling a few nice Rudd but then came on the feed the small Bream I landed around 4 of them at around 12oz so not a bad start with 2 hours gone I had about 3lb 8oz in the net!
Every 10 mins or so I would feed my other line with pellet and have a dip in and see if there was any action to be had but sadly nothing so I kept plugging away trying to find the silver's after about another hour I had another couple of smaller Bream about 8oz and a few roach and Rudd in between I then feed another 2 balls of ground bait!
Another hour had past and not much to show for my efforts but I just kept plugging away I had about 7lb in my net now and only Brian was beating me in my section!
With only another hour left I put the res of my ground bait in (4 balls) and kept plugging away and managed about another 1lb or so of small Rudd and roach!
With 5mins to go I threw in all my pellet paste corn meat cat meat and decided to try the method feeder over my pole line in about 30seconds the tip flew round and I was into a small carp and the last fish of the day about 9oz the all out was then called!
I was very happy with my performance and I thought that only Brian had beaten me in my section!
All packed up and the weigh in started on peg 21 down to peg 1 Brian put around 19lb on the scales for a very deserved section win I put 8lb 9oz on the scales for second in section and was very please to beat 3 other senior anglers
I finished 8th out of he 15 that fished and was very pleased to say the least: D
See you soon Mitch: D
