How things change!!!!

SCHOOL 1957 vs. 2007

Scenario: Johnny and Mark get into a fight after school.
1957 - Crowd gathers. Mark wins. Johnny and Mark shake hands and end up mates.
2007 - Police called, SWAT team arrives, arrests Johnny and Mark. Charge them with assault, both expelled even though Johnny started it.

Scenario: Jeffrey won't be still in class, disrupts other students.
1957 - Jeffrey sent to office and given a good caning by the Principal. Returns to class, sits still and does not disrupt class again.
2007 - Jeffrey given huge doses of Ritalin. Becomes a zombie. Tested for ADD. School gets extra money from state because Jeffrey has a disability.

Scenario: Billy breaks a window in his neighbour's car and his Dad gives him a whipping with his belt.
1957 - Billy is more careful next time, grows up normally, goes to uni, and becomes a successful businessman.
2007 - Billy's dad is arrested for child abuse. Billy removed to foster care and joins a gang. Psychologist tells Billy's sister that she remembers being abused herself and their Dad goes to prison. Billy's Mum has affair with psychologist.

Scenario: Mark gets a headache and takes some aspirin to school.
1957 - Mark shares aspirin with Principal.
2007 - Police called, Mark expelled from school for drug violations. Car searched for drugs and weapons.

Scenario: Pedro fails high school English.
1957 - Pedro gets extra tuition, passes English, goes to Uni.
2007 - Pedro's cause is taken up by state. Newspaper articles appear nationally explaining that teaching English as a requirement for graduation is racist. Class action lawsuit filed by anti discrimination commissioner against Education Dept and Pedro's English teacher. English banned from core curriculum. Pedro given diploma anyway but ends up mowing lawns for a living because he cannot speak English.

Scenario: Johnny takes apart leftover firecrackers, puts them in a model aeroplane paint bottle, blows up an ant bed.
1957 - Ants die.
2007 - Local police called. Johnny charged with domestic terrorism, parents investigated, siblings removed from home, computers confiscated, Johnny's Dad goes on a terror watch list and is never allowed to fly again.

Scenario: Johnny falls while running during morning tea and scrapes his knee. He is found crying by his teacher, Mary. Mary hugs him to comfort him.
1957 - In a short time, Johnny feels better and goes on playing.
2007 - Mary is accused of being a sexual predator and loses her job. She faces 3 years in prison while Johnny undergoes 5 years of therapy.

Agree with both of you it's so true.

On a similar note I was watching the Alf Garnett film last night/early hours of this morning. It's a wander they allow it on the TV in this politically correct day and age but how true to life it is.........and show's what our country used to be like (GREAT Britian)

Opinion in 1957/2007

1957 "Somebody" has an opinion and people listen, starts a very successful political carreer, earns loads of money, becomes prime minister, retires with a knighthood and fantastic pension

2007 "Somebody" too careful to express an opinion in case he ends up with a criminal record ....................................

jesus its frightning all true. my opinion for what its worth is we are like we are today because we are all lazy and can,t be bothered to challenge the pc prats who make a good living out of saying stupid things. when maggy thatcher killed of the unions we the small little people lost our voice. when i was little my mother used to say the most stupidest of things because she never took the time to think about what she had just said. now it looks like my mothers in charge. i was at school in 1957 so i know every word weldec has printed is the absolute truth. i now work in a school and some of the things i hear the social workers say is so stupid i sometimes think i,m watching the simpsons. an example, johnny only broke 37 windows because his father lives 100 miles away and has,nt phoned him this morning. true i heard it myself. same conversation johnny was seen in town at 2 am ( he,s 9). reason he could,nt sleep because he did,nt get up untill 5pm. but he was smoking and the police had to bring him home to his mother for the third time this week. answer your picking on him because he,s coloured. what chance has this kid got with morons like these people in charge. answer none at all , and in 9 years time he will be breeding. thank god i,m old

Welcome to Britain in 08 is the future still orange ? is it still bright ? will fishing be the next cruel inhumane sport targeted then banned by the pc brigade ? Unfortunately all the above previous comments are a snapshot of our modern society today bring back the cane !!!!!! Trouble is we have a weak government and weaker opposition no wonder younger people are not interested in voting with this lot running the country. GRRRRR !!!!!!!

every thing every one has said is very true. I was in my last year of high school last year and i seen some things that made even me wish the cane was still around.
eg: Boy who shall remain nameless smashing throu a wall with hammer in tech class. Teacher shouts at him boy hits the teacher in the face and gets suspended for 1 week nothing further happens because his mom n dad are separated and has a troubled background! maybe if he was punished he would realize he can get away with this bad behavior and will stop doing it.

I applaude all your replies, we are the people that have a voice and we once upon a time lived in a democratic society, the voice is still there but the democracy has dissapered. If we all (the goverment that is) want to be politically correct then please please can they educate the majority (as it is becoming) the one word that has been removed from our vocabulary and that word is RESPECT.
