Default A tough but rewarding Walk 19th May 2008

We walked and scrambled up Snowdon via The Watkins Path and descended the South Ridge of Bwlch Cwm Llan. A distance of 8.6 miles.

A tough but rewarding walk i consider this the true ascent of Snowdon because unlike other routes it starts from only 200ft above sea level. The weather was perfect with sunshine and a light breeze.

The final section to ascend the summit is a real lung burster, steep slippery and long. However we managed it without having a heart attack and arrived at the summit after 6 hours of walking. The Watkins Path is not a popular route so I can reccommend it if u want to avoid all the school parties etc who ascend via The Pyg and Miners Tracks from Pen-y-Pass.

It took us a further 3 hours to traverse the South ridge back down to the car on the Bedgelert road car park. In case anybody is interested the new cafe is still not completed work was still in full swing yesterday. It is a really ugly design and spoils the summit in my opinion.

Anyway here are a few photos for u to enjoy the same views without the pain

Yeah it was -15 on the Snowdon summit last time

It was a longer steeper walk than the Pyg Track walk in the winter time but the conditions were a whole lot warmer and safer.
