Lower Thames Championships - Talk Angling fishing chat and tackle advice

For those of you who love your rivers -

That is the question everyone is asking following last year’s triumphant return to the match calendar where one of the greatest Thames match weights 170-11-0 was produced by Suffolk angler Mick Hanks who has already entered the 2009 event. He could find reigning World Champion Will Raison trying to snatch the title from him though!

Once again Warlingham & District Anglers’ Society will be promoting the Lower Thames Championship but a week earlier than 2008 with Drywall Ceilings & Partitions Ltd returning to back the event to the tune of £3,000. This year’s event takes place on Saturday, September 19 to ensure that as many people as possible can take part by avoiding other major festivals.
“We had 160 last year but I believe we can get close to 200 as it is a pretty free date in the match calendar,” said organiser and WADAS Chairman Dave Harper. Last year we missed out cracking weights everywhere by just a few days as the colour vanished with many agreeing that the clear conditions and high pressure made the going tough”.

Chris Dulley, MD of Drywall Ceilings & Partitions said: “Despite the recession, I am very pleased that we can support this competition because it is one of the great events in the south and I know the Thames can provide some superb fishing. I might even have a go myself !”

This year the pools will be re-structured and subject to the number taking part, the winner can expect to clear £1,500 with £1,200 for the runner up plus numerous other prizes including £100 every ten pegs. Entry will be just £25 (payable to Warlingham & District AS) with the draw taking place at 08.00 and fishing between 10.00 and 15.00.

well i have been out on the Thames getting ready for the lower Thames champs. NO rain and crystal clear .
But i was pleasently surprised when i practiced. Dont want to give anyhing away but there will be some fish caught even if we get no rain.
This will be a propper fishing Match , i miss the matches on the rivers and i am so pleased we are back on the Thames.
much better than sitting on a commercial water hoping your on a shedfull and waiting for the elastic to come out or the tip to go round .
This is proper fishing !

Well lower Thames overwith and 100 quid better off, well done dave for putting on such a good match,plus warrington for oranizing and making it happen. The sponsors dry wall ceilings should take a big bow for putting there faith on a river match{if more would do it the rivers would have some fish put in] there would also be 50 + pegs instead of 25pegs cramed around a circle where the depth is only made up ofpet carp. Bring on the rivers.
