Most match anglers will use two, three or more keepnets in a match, silvers kept apart from carp etc. It is down to the idiots who fish for 8 hours cramming fish in to one net that ruin it for pleasure anglers

It's because there's no reason to keep fish if your not in a match, fish in net's get minor damage but as it's a match it is needed, also 99% of match anglers know how to tip fish safe as possible or if they do it wrong will get told at the weigh in,pleasure angler's never get told how to do it and you see so many tumbling the fish down the net at the end of a session.

I wouldn't agree with 99%, in my experience it is far less. I agree though there is no need to keep fish in keepnets when pleasure fishing. The main reason for not allowing it on commercials is that if fish are kept in nets for 5 or more hours EVERY day, rather than just on match days, they will be put under more stress. The argument to that I suppose, is that many commercials run matches nearly every day of the week and sometimes more than one match per day!

HA ha Larry reduction that's a good one, the few fisheries near me that allow keep nets for pleasure fishing charge an extra quid for the privilege.
Not that I agree with nets for pleasure sessions.

I posted the very same question a while ago. And got the same answers but i think that if you put the fish straight back that the fish in your swim will be spooked and your swim will dry up.I think that keep nets should be allowed as i own one but am not a match angler so it,s a bit pointless owning one.But saying that one of the fisheries i go to allow them in winter but not in the summer .

Dont think many people have tried this, but next time you are on a match, try dropping a chunk of meat in your keep net and watch the carp que up to take it!
So as for STRESS, i doubt whether there is much involved and the time that the fish are in the net is a not a problem!
As long as fish are handled and returned properly i cant see a problem!

Just because fish feed, doesn't mean they aren't stressed mate they are programmed to eat to stay alive! The more fish that are crammed in a net, the more fish to fish contact occurs, so if you have one which, say, has a bacterial infection (ulcer) and then you catch another and it loses a scale during the fight, it is possibly more likely to come into contact with the ulcerated fish than it would if they were not both in the net.
As for handling - that is the other problem. I have seen far too many matchmen here who haven't a clue how to pull the net through and pour their fish more gently into the weigh sling. Also, how many other fisheries / clubs use an unhooking mat when they pour fish into the sling like we do here??
