hi donald, plumb your depth so that the entire bristle is sticking out of the water, now mould the paste around the hook and ship out (i use a cable tie) now carefully dropy your baited hook into your swim, strike your paste off, and shallow up enough so that when your paste is on it will sink your float so that only about 2-5mm of your bristle is showwing (no shot). I see people use paste and it is way to hard, keep it on the soft side, that way when it breaks down in the water, the bouyancy of your float with no paste on will rise and let you know to re-bait, this way you are constantly feeding your swim, when the lumps move in you dont wait long for unmissable bites to develop.
The wind and undertow play a big factor, but on a day when there is no wind have your paste just touching the deck and BINGO

good luck
dave
