Default My seatbox story

The seatbox story

This story is an account of my fishing over the last 15 years and the seatboxes that I have brought and sold. When I came back from living and working abroad the first thing I did was joined a local club got my old rods and reels out of storage and started fishing my box at that time was a solid plastic SKP jobbie without the leg levelling we now have. Then I brought my first pole in 97 a fibre glass monster and started to look at the boxes my fellow members were using I brought my first box of the new types with self levelling legs it as a watercraft box set me back over £200 then came a Milo box over £400 then came a Brilo box again over £300 then as the poles got better and longer came my first out and out match pole a Trabbucco dream team along with a Trab box again over £400 then I had a Preston X4 box @ £400 then a space station with all the attachments over £450 then at the height of my match fishing a Rive St D25 with wheels bump bar etc etc all in all over £800 when I retired from match fishing due to increased disability I sold the Rive and took a Boss 6 draw compact for £250 then I sold that as my bum did not like it and brought a Matchbox Pyramid 2 front draw and 1 sliding draw for £75. The first thing I did was to have some extra length front legs made for the footplate for £25 locally then I set about spraying it and had all the legs powder coated along with the footplate I had kept some of the usual attachments mostly Preston stuff 2x 2 right angle and a couple of brolly arms had some bracket made very cheaply and used the old short front legs as stabilisers also had a spray bar made at the same place all in all I spent less that £80 on turning the pyramid into a fishing station. Ok here comes the admission I SPENT HUNDREDS OF POUNDS AND PROBALY WELL OVER £2500 ON MY PREVIOUS SEATBOXES AND NONE OF THEM WERE AS GOOD AS THE CHEAP LITTLE PYRAMID ALTERED BY ME AND DESIGNED BY ME TO COPE WITH DISSABILITIES SO WAS ALL THAT MONEY I HAD SPENT PREVIUOSLY SPENT WORTH IT NO NO NO NO WAY I WISH I HAD LISTENED TO THAT TINY VOICE INSIDE OF ME SAYING DO YOU REALLY NEED THAT NEW BOX I NOW KNOW ITS NOT THE NAME YOU PARK YOUR BOTTOM ON and given the fact that I could afford all that money I spent I now wish I had listened to that tiny voice of reason and worked the answer out for myself my matchbox is as comfortable as any box I have ever owned and outperforms all of them because I set it up the way I wanted it and not the way it came IN OTHERWORDS I THOUGHT ABOUT IT AND MADE IT WORK. OK maybe it does not look as pretty as the gleaming Rive but O’boy it’s a better box for me and yes maybe it would not suit everybody but it’s a painful lesson learnt The moral of this story is…….. well I will let the readers answer that one( and I bet I will get some comical answers)
Good luck folks and thanks for reading this it was painful to type and if anyone wants a picture of my current box I would be happy to email you one Regards Stewart
