Staffs-Worcs Canal
Having had the benefit of loads of free time on my hands recently I have spent a lot of time walking and over the last fortnight or so have covered the length of the Staffs-Worcs canal from Kinver to Dimmingsdale.
One thing struck me during my travels-there was very little evidence of any angling activity having taken place. There were a few places where it was obvious that someone at some time had dropped their box and wet a line but these were few and far between.
This particular canal is stuffed full of fish and prompts me to ask the question "Does anyone fish canals anymore?" and if not why not?

The staffs /worcs has recently had a major fish kill , an amonia spill has knocked the fish sick.
I love the cut me ,, The local canals in the black country offer terrific sport.. better than most rural canals,, some r untouched (probaly because u need a stab vest to fish some lengths)
The dudley canal is minutes from me and the waterfall lane stretch is excellent.

Have fished on BAA stretches of Staffs/Worc canal for the past 15 years on/off. Mostly in club matches, we have found that it is often a struggle for a decent match weight. Often 2 or 3Lb good enough to win. I have found it only fishes marginly better when pleasure fishing. However, there are certain pegs where you can build a good weight.
As for a comment that the Staffs/Worc. (or any canal) requires a long walk with access problems, I have never found this to be the case, long walk on a canal? Underfished, yes.

Hmmm
Ya must not have fished as much of it as i have then bud!
Access to alot of BAA water on canal and river is diabolicle!
Try finding parking for a dozen or more cars in saftey on 80% of the water,ya got no hope!

I agree it aint too bad for pleasure fishing with one or two anglers, but matches are a struggle!
And i wouldnt advise anyone to fish on their own in this day and age!
I grew up in Kinver and spent half my time as a kid fishing around there,i love canals, but unfortunately they are now places of annoyance on a weekend with all the loonies that they attract, most of which contribute nowt to the upkeep of the towpaths!
