The Angling Foundation logo was supposed to help ensure good practise in use of keepnets. Not all manufacturers signed up though, so there are some perfectly good keepnets out there that don't have the logo.

If I remember right, the Foundation was something to do with both the Angling Trades Association and the Premier Fisheries group. I think only the Premier Fisheries apply the logo test to keepnets and Roy Marlow at the Glebe will inspect a net on the day and decide for himself if it is carp safe or not.

yes steve i understand that to...but roy wont let nets that are not soft? on his complex EVEN with the logo....so yet again it looks like we have a worthless logo......it seems to me that its a shot in the foot again from an industry that just wants to take our money.why do we do this to ourselves

All my nets are more than 5 years old but I have never had a problem of a carp getting a fin snagged in them... I can understand the argument and now I have a fishery of my own its going to be a dilemma to keep the fish fit and healthy.

Personally if I was buying nets now I like the rubberised ones as they seem to dry almost instantly and the disease that we are all worried about spreading needs a wet net to survive so these type of nets could be the way forwards as you cannot gaurantee every angler has dipped their nets or done it properly!

The only way to stop the spread of diseases is for fishery owners to provide the nets inc landing net heads but then that puts up the costs for owners who have to then pass costs on to the angler.
it is a fine balancing act on getting bums on seats and fish welfare.
What fishery owner has the time or the resources to check if anglers are using the correct type of net and dipping them correctly
